Cool thanks for clarifying.  Recall actually going to one of their grand finals Vs Heidelberg back in the mid/late 90s with my old man and one of his indigenous work colleagues.  Was a pretty wild and rough affair both on and off the feild.  Somehow I had in my head that this might be a team from Fitzroy Crossing in Northern Australia where maybe their may have been a little more professionalism, although that is probably still pretty grass roots type level and budget.

Goes completely with Neville's character to be seeking out a role giving back to the comunity than merely financial gains.  Still a great opportunity for him to coach a team in his own right and maybe build towards that at the top level at some point.

About 18 years ago I was working at Northland Secondary College, at the time the largest provider of education for koori kids in Melbourne.  Quite a few of the kids and teachers were involved in Fitzroy All Stars, both in their football and netball programs.  It's massive in the koori community in Melbourne.

Langford eyeing a few numbers down the order in 2026 I reckon 😂

Also, number 34 kept open for another year. #Kalaniwatch

We haven't had heaps of luck with number 19 over the years. Bout time we have a champ in No. 19

Big wrap for Dan Turner to get 10. They must be pretty certain he is that 3rd tall.

Didn't expect Turner with 10. At all.

It upsets me as a world game enthusiast, because in my mind the #10 is for the playmaker (ala Messi, Maradona, Pele, Zidane, Ronaldinhho etc).

2 for JvR another one which upsets me, reminds me of the time i saw someone with a shirt at Old Trafford with the Number 2 and "GOAL MACHINE" as the name above it.

I know this is not the rationale to take towards numbering in AFL but my mind is sidetracked.

This is exactly why I didn't see it coming, if anything he should be a no.9.

That's hilarious btw, I always see No.2 as the more boring and dour but honest CB or FB in the team.

You’re confusing your sports making life far too difficult!! There are a million numbers over the world you could be taking into account. What happens in Spain or Manchester has no bearing on our allocation.

Embrace the young stars in their OWN number to create a legendary career for our future champions.

Disco #10 how good

Party time!

Got big rapps on this kid.  Think he's hot alot of tricks and alot of heart.  Good choice for Gus's old jumper I think.  I don't think retiring it for years is nessacery if you've got a worthy recipient good to go.

Gee, Hassa's old number... If the great man isnt available, Andrew Obst was a fantastic player. 29 is a highly respected MFC number.

He's a splitting image of Shaun Smith in that recent pic and now he's wearing his old number, as well as Joel's.

And he did get concussed v Colonwood in his first game 😡

Further to the Disco getting Gus's number thing, in the Disco video up on the club website, he does mention how honoured her is getting it and how he was quite close with Gus, having stayed with him and his parents when he first came to the club (as I understand many others have also).

Wouldn't mind having this thread pinned to make it easy to find out who is who, particularly among the new players and those with new numbers.

It's a bit disappointing that our new recruits aren't wearing their numbers on their training tops. At least they weren't last Wednesday at Gosch's.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
