Good news.

Just confirmed on afl.com.au

Roos target pick one, Dee to go on, big Dog to stay

DEE TO GO ON

MELBOURNE veteran Jake Melksham is set to go on at the Demons next year after his knee reconstruction late this season.

The 32-year-old has been out of contract and an unrestricted free agent after going down with the season-ending knee injury in round 24 against Sydney and missing the Demons’ finals series.

But the popular forward is set to play on in 2024, with details still to be worked through around whether he will be senior or rookie-listed in the deal. The injury will likely see him sidelined until past midway through next season.

Who knows BBO he may add a bit of X factor in our 2024 finals campaign if Jake can get back in time.!!!

Makes sense if we cycle him to the Rookie list

He's only just turned 32. He can be a class act when he's on. Those shots from the boundary are brilliant.

We've got the list spots and would be paying him to rehab anyway.

I see it as him being the assistant forwards coach and working closely with JVR and Jefferson. Joel Smith too. If he makes it back to play and can contribute that's a bonus.

Happy about this, love what he brings to our forward line

Won't cost a lot, financially or list wise, especially with the number of players retiring or leaving for opportunities elsewhere

Unclear which way DL is trending in 2024 optimism atm, but this feels like a little up-tick ☝️

Other than a feel good story not sure this helps, 32 yo fringe player coming off an acl trying to get into the side late next year at best. People already worried about Tmac and Ben Brown taking up spots on the list this will be a 3rd player who is unlikely to have any impact next year

Fantastic to hear!  I'd be delighted for him if he could get back to AFL fitness by the back end of next year. Him being in the wings would keep pressure on McAdams too should that trade eventuate.

That makes sense.

absolutely love Melky but no ida why we would re sign the guy.... wont be playing. the only thing i can think of is it will be a chap soft cap inclusion as a Fwd line coach

Can’t speak for everyone here but a feel good story is very welcome right about now.

I’d feel much better if we were doing something towards improving our list. At an absolute best this is status quo

Good on him .... but a tough row to hoe you would think!

Good news .  Surprised 'hoe' wasnt censored.  Amazing. Moderator must been on holiday.

I like the idea of a fresh Melksham coming back into the side in round 19/20 and then being the potential finals X factor we were missing this year.

Collingwood had a bunch of blokes over 30 on Saturday that performed in a GF.

Tough ask to get back playing afl again after cruciate knee injury at his age. Definite feel good factor if he makes it

Good outcome. Glad we're not getting rid of all of the experience in the locker room all at once.

I’ve been on holiday. Are we getting rid of any of the experience in the locker room?

Great morale boosting news! So important to the fabric of this club. Will be cheering hard for Milkshake to win a flag in '24!

Well we know one thing.
The Melk will give it all he's got.
Stood up during multiple big moments during the year and one of our best kicks for goal.
Not much competition on that front I know.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
