Unrelated (except totally related): are trebuchets still a thing?

Maynard in a trebuchet?  That would be a long shot.

Why not?  Lions have beaten Pies last  6 times apparently.  Will hold no fears for them and the Pies have come in to the finals in average form and losses.

Don't ne sucked in by the Melbourne hype surrounding Pies.

Definitely not sucked in by Melbourne hype. Im in Bangkok.  lol

Its a huge ask for Lions to get up on Saturday. Not the same team 20 years back under Mathews.

Pies will get alot of love from the umpires at crucial moments. Everything will have go right backs and fwd for Lions to get up. Lachie Neale might rip a new one to justify his Brownlow.

Of course theyre a chance. Pies have been lucky in Sept but not last year. Maybe its their time.

URGGGGHHH!

History will record that the only two times collingwood has beaten us in a final since ww2 was courtesy of their roughouse, dirty tactics in 1958, and then in 2023, courtesy of the AFL-sanctioned poleaxing of one of our key playmakers.

let's just hope the lions win by a late goal after maynard is illegally blocked but no free paid. just like in the 2018 gf.

that would give him a few more sleepless nights

Reasonable alternative, though I would prefer to see him stretchered off in the first minute after Zorko takes him and Cox 😎out at the opening bounce.

Is this thread still going? Suggest it probably should be locked or renamed to focus on Angus's health and whether he decides to play on next year.

There's already another thread for Gus updates.

This thread will be triumphantly closed tomorrow Arvo.

Dunno about triumphantly. There is no karma in footy. Maynard could well have a medal this time tomorrow.

Edit: moreover, there is nothing to stop him repeating himself tomorrow to enhance his chances of winning.

If karma was real then that vile piece of [censored] Brayden "the Thug" Maynard would be accidentally hit by the Brisbane Lions team bus on his way to the MCG for the Grand Final tomorrow!

I am going to BOO that [censored] for as long as he [censored] plays his AFL career! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Quite the dichotomy this…

Head injuries are generally bad, concussions end careers and affect the long term quality of life of some players.

However, on this occasion, it would be  cathartic to see that bozo knocked the [censored] out in the first quarter - if not the first five minutes.

Two points;

1. It is important to try to keep the idea of protecting the head alive.

2. It is a higher priority to ensure that Maynard doesn't breed.

So there are other higher (lower?) priorities than knocking him out.

The guy needs a non-lethal Darwin Award.

nah. 50 seconds to go. pies up by 5 points. maynard collects ball deep in backline. under no pressure miskicks ball to joe daniher who swings on his left foot and goals. lions by 1 point.

maynard traded to north melbourne

And a million memes matching it with Eddie going 'justice has been served'.

I could deathride Fremantle and barrack for Melbourne at the same time

Key to this game is the Big O must dominate that yank from the get go, sink his knee right into his ribs.

This is where he got Gawny early.

Must fight fire with fire straight from the first bounce, we didn't do this, we were very reactive.

I hope our lads have learnt lessons from the first 7 minutes of the 1st QF, have to set the tone early not physical enough at all.

What about having his Jabba the Hutt ugly head on the front page of the Hun?¿??? NAUSEATING 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Zorko might be retiring after the GF.

That would give him freedom for a lot of accidental incidents.

I would imagine he would go extremely hard at the smothering.

Watching the 2021 GF again. Before the game Fox had a segment on Bulldogs smothering. Not one looked like Maynard's uncontrolled leap forward into a player...

Football Act !!!!

Let's face it, if it happened in round 2 he would have got 3-4.

They came up with the smothering angle and then said the hit was accidental, as he wasn't bumping and then poorly prosecuted the case.

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

We all know how this works with the AFL favourites.

Cripps last year another pathetic example and like Gus, Ah Chee, Cripp's victim, missed the finals.

Newman last year got off with a punch to the throat, because they said the charge sheet had the wrong hand named as the striking one, even though they said those technicalities are irrelevant.

I think back to Barry Hall the Swans Captain, punching a Saint pretty hard in the guts, 150 meters off the ball, in a PF.

Tribunal then found that a Swans player was about to grab the ball 150 meters away and he would would have kicked it forward and then that Hall was in the play and it was deemed not off the ball. Hall was cleared and was one of the best in the Swan's flag.

AFL happy.

Integrity is a swear word at the AFL.

They would not know it if it bit them on [censored].

Well he got his flag. We can't do anything about it now. Karma doesn't exist for some people. They are untouchable

The world is full of injustices. Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to people who should rot in hell.
The AFL is no different.

Maynard won a flag while Gus still doesn’t know if he’ll be allowed to play ever again, and De Goey has also won a flag while women are watching on wishing he was in jail for what he did to them.

Seeing that dog [censored] Brayden "the Thug" Maynard win a Premiership Medallion is an absolute disgrace!

I hope someone accidentally runs that piece of slime over with a truck!

I hate that [censored] [censored] more than any other player in the AFL now! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
