Gents

We've got so much WA talent... Taj, McVee, Rivers and JVR.

How are going to keep them? I worry the vultures from the west (Freo and Weagles) may try to come after them!

Sorry if this is still too premature but we must keep this list of players for the long run.

If the panel can discuss the merits of selecting Luke Dunstan over Jordan or Harmes. He has dominated for Casey whilst Harmes and Jordan have been underwhelming. He could also be used to ease the load off Viney.

You need a Oliver or Petracca playing in that midfield, if Dunstan is in and Viney out.

To play devil's advocate , what's the body of evidence the Harrison Petty can excel as a forward. Are we delightfully reading too much into one game? Please discuss panel.

Hi guys well done on the podcasts each week, they are brilliant and insightful...

My question for this week is do we take the opportunity to rest the big 3.. Max, Trac and Viney... considering we could rotate with Grundy, Dunstan, Spargo and still do enough to beat the kangaroos.

These 3 are so important to our finals chances I feel it would be wise to keep them fresh and free of any niggling injuries going int September?

Yup, I think this is a good call.  He has also kicked goals this year.  With Clarry coming back maybe not.  But gotta be better than Harmes

I'm going to start a rock band.

And call it the Petty Forward Experiment.

Hi gents.

Love the POD great work.

I have long been a Petty forward hater, and thought hid talents as a backman were too good.  Think I might be wrong!

What do you guys think about the balance if the side?  I think this is it, with Jordon and Woey keeping thier spot unless someone bangs down the door.  Unfortunately I think that's it for Harmes, he doesn't complement our midfield correctly and Clarry will take that spot anyway.

Huge win, top 4 sealed can we get top 2?

Just want to say how awesome that was!  It was a shootout and the toigs brought everything they had.  We took momentum back, absorbed the pressure and turned it around.  The last quarter it barely left our front half.

Big shout out to max and jack, leaders extraordinaire.  Great coaching by goody, including the tactical sub use.

how do you rank that win? (I think it matches the Geelong win in 21)

What has changed in the way we play. I don't believe our defence is playing as well as they could but I can't help but think these high scores we are conceding are partially by design.

Are we pressing higher up the ground? Are we playing faster and 'embracing' the imperfections more? A month ago I wouldn't have fancied Melbourne in a shootout but now we seem like a team that doesn't care how many points the oppo scores as long as we score more!

I feel Langdon is at about 75% of his usual self from past years. His fluidity and accuracy seem to be lacking and he sometimes looks lost and all at sea in positioning. I can only see the game on TV so dont get a full or true perspective. He's a player that we admire for his altheticism and ability to move the ball forward, to our favour, but it doesn't seem be happening of late. Increased pressure? Different role? My own skewed perception?? 🤪

I think we need to take another moment to appreciate the efforts of our Captain Fantastic Max Gawn.

He was simply massive in the last half.

23 disposals
22 hitouts
17 contested possessions
9 clearances
379 metres gained
7 inside 50s
7 score involvements

He has more clearances than Richmond in the last quarter alone.

Here are 5 questions that I have for this week's podcast.

1) Was that Harry Petty's best game for the Demons (as a forward)?

2) We would all have to be over the moon with Jake Melksham's form in the team so far?

3) The Brodie Grundy conundrum. What do we do with him? Can we play two ruckman in our team? What level of "forward craft" does Brodie Grundy need to meet so that he can get back into the AFL senior side?

4) Is Jack Viney tougher than his old man Todd Viney? I certainly can't split them. Jack Viney is hard as nails and playing some fabulous football at the moment.

5) What do the Demons need to be cautious of in Alistair Clarkson's "come back" game as coach for the Kangaroos down in Tasmania this coming weekend?

He was incredible - noting the Q4 signature move taking ball from center ruck, kicking it inside 50 so we score increments every stat above. AFL measuring 7th jacket now and will reinstate Max as AA captain and issue a public apology for blip with Hawkins, blaming previous administration….

A question about future planning and How to work our Max cunundrum?  playing Max solo seems like our best chance of winning another flag . Do we try to hold onto Grundy fr a cpl of years as back up. Will we even have a choice as he may well ask to leave. If this plays out as now increasingly expected , then any decent ruckman will also fear being stuck in the VFL and may not want to come to us. I’m loving the “ now” after a great win but how  to plan ahead ?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
