Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Have we officially found our full forward?

Just having another look at the replay - Petty's fourth goal after he was going back and forth, side to side, leaving the defenders guessing is just what we have needed in our forward line for ages.  Movement +++.  Let's hope that they can all learn from this and continue movement.    For far too long our big forwards have appeared static just waiting for the bomb, and being spoiled in the contest.

What makes a natural key forward is the ability to take marks. He had that even in 2019.  Petty should never play back again imo.  He's 1 quarter away from pulling down 3 marks and turning a game.   Neitz. G train etc. There is precedent here.

Spot on. Was always going to be our next key forward, but I guess only some of us knew that. 😎

Harry is a better mark than Neitz and after watching the replay several times he marks the ball at full stretch which gives the backs less chance of spoiling him, he has the agility and will only get better as forward.

He reminds me of Steven Smith with his agility and played some games as a forward.

Big call! Neitz was one of the best overhead marks going round!

Not necessarily disagreeing though, this guy can take them.

That guy that can take a strong contested mark and lead up as well is what we’ve been looking for , and is the final piece of the puzzle so to speak.

Petty is a very strong contested beast and perfect for the role.

I noticed that even Van Rooyen was leading more as well , so to have two big athletic guys moving around and clunking marks makes them difficult to cover.

Cant see BBB or TMac getting much of a look in now.

Melky is the perfect foil and super smart, and we will have two of them too when Fritter comes back.

On a side note, I can see TMac taking Tomlinsons spot if gets fit in time.

I was curious as to the last time a Melbourne player actually kicked 6 goals in a match - obviously, before Bailey Fritsch in the Granny.

Russell Robertson - Round 22 2006

Which means, in 17 seasons, only two Melbourne players have actually achieved this feet.

I should also like to mention I posed this question to ChatGPT. It informed me that Brad Green kicked 6 goals in 2011 (he didn't) and Brad Miller kicked 9 goals in a match in both 2008 and 2009 (he definitely didn't).

I don't think we need to worry about killer AI death squads for a little while yet.

Feet?  Is that Bailey's problem, after he achieved this feat?

I would suggest that you are neither pompous nor pedantic but perfidious and pusillanimous.

To play the devils advocate here, will Petty playing forward depend on Tommos future performance?

I would think Petty has had his magnet super glued in the forward line for the remainder of the season

Tomlinson is competing with Smith me thinks

Thanks. I forgot about Smith

Tommo didn't have a great one against the Tigers but I rate him very highly. All will be well.

Well that turned out to be the worst post of my Demonland career. A disaster grammatically and factually. I fully deserved the Boromir meme.

Apologies to TMac and Kozzy.

Hogan kicked 7 in 2016 at Marvel against the Saints. Does that count?

Of course! Although at this point we’re just determining how spectacularly wrong someone can be.

I would also add that Tom McDonald has achieved it twice in his career.

The fact I couldn’t remember that Pickett did it only two years ago is concerning. I think I might need a ct scan.

Yes, Petty up forward, great, yadda yadda. But we can't be leaking 15 goals each week because we've moved him out of the back line - where he plays (played?) such an important role.

Resurrect Tommy Mac as second KPD until Adams is ready?

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
