    I'm not saying he would fill the hole but i assume the depth would be handy. I guess we'll find out round 1.

    As I said hindsight is 20/20.

    Everything i've read said he was "ok without being outstanding" in Sydney's sim today. That is exactly how he played at Melbourne.

    We need to move on. Sparrow is entering his prime, RIvers is ready to go to another level, Woewodin could be anything, and Billings could be a great addition once he finds his groove. There are plenty of players available to fill the small shoes left by Jordon.

    Agree and when he had chance in finals last year against Blues was a no show!

    Depth but no star!

    I  am confident Jordon will accumulate well on the postage stamp that is the SCG and hopefully carve out a quality career. He had his chances at MFC and did not take them and was too like for some others we have. He was also exposed in other positions on the wider MCG expanses,The Brayshaw retirement does not change the situation with he nor Harmes in my view. Brayshaw had hardly played midfield til late in the year and has not when we were at our best. We need to take this opportunity to inject some difference into our CBAs whether that be Pickett, Salo, Laurie, Rivers  or other.

    Goody and co just haven’t been able to convince young fringe players to stay. They’ve been given contracts, opportunity and the chance to go to good clubs in a great city, but it’s disappointing.

    I don’t have any issues with the way guys weren’t picked for certain games. You can’t do selection via hindsight. JJ got a good run in 2022 and didn’t really do anything to suggest he had to stick in the side permanently last year.

    I have some issue that players weren’t convinced to stay with others moved out to accomodate them. And I guess in JJ’s case I’m not over the moon about Hunter taking his spot and being no better. 

    Played well in a scratch match?

    Spare me yet another “DeeSpencer doesn’t like Hunter” post, FFS.

    Jordon had significant opportunity here, far more than Bedford (who, by the way, is fast becoming the most overrated player in the league), and never did enough to warrant us doing more than we did to keep him.

    Agree we should always thank anyone who represents the MFC and wish them well if they leave on good terms - JJ ticks this box

    The reality is that our list needs more leg speed than less and while JJ was a solid player speed is not his strength

    With our list having some changes, some by design, other forced upon us now is the time to try and get some more genuine pace and some elite balls users - oh a couple of quality tall KP players would be handy too 😀

    How James Jordon went from fringe Demon to one of AFL’s best taggers

    James Jordon has gone from a Melbourne fringe dweller to one of the most important players in Sydney’s premiership quest

    The 2024 season couldn’t have gone more to plan for Jordon. 

    Following an off-season move to Sydney from the Dees, he has played every match for John Longmire’s side. 

    Initially brought in as a midfield-forward who would bring pressure around the contest, the Swans eventually converted him into an out-and-out tagger to deploy on the best opposition players — “Best tagger in the league,” Nick Blakey interjects during the interview as he’s walking past. 

    His efforts have been invaluable in their run to the minor premiership and he’s now proven that he can replicate that form in finals. 

    “He’s been superb for us,” Longmire said of Jordon. “He’s incredibly disciplined, but he’s also a terrific runner. 

    “There were some important moments with he, Chad and Heens and those guys running hard in that last term. He was one of those guys and we love the way he goes about his job.”

    But Saturday’s match was also a sweet moment of satisfaction for the 23-year-old. After regularly being on the fringes at Melbourne, including as an unused sub in the 2021 grand final triumph, he finally has been given the belief that he belongs on the biggest stage. 

    “It gives me a lot of confidence as well, to go out there knowing that all the coaches back me in and I am loving it,” he said. 

    We’ve got such a great team with so many great players. And you know, it’s the selflessness of the team. For example, Errol got tagged (by the Giants) but he was massive in a lot of different ways. 

    “This is exactly why I came, and I’m loving it.”

    Clubs can't hold to everyone, but we let an absolute gun player slip through the net for one reason or another. His goal assist in the last quarter on Saturday where he was close to the boundary but cooly hit a Sydney player in front of goal was awesome footy smarts.

    You can live with Harmes going elsewhere, but this one stings.

    Kind of feels as though last year's trade and free agency period was the first nail in the 2024 coffin. Grundy, Jordon and Harmes out for Billings, McAdam and Fullarton was a terrible net loss.

    After we lost him to free agency I'd  imagine the list department will err on the side of caution if they ever want to play list-chess again and delist a player and re-rookie him.

    Not to mention the future second round pick (2024) for McAdams...

    Jordon hasn't shown he can play a role consistently well at AFL level aside from tagger. He has shown this at the Swans too.

    We don't use hard taggers every week so he leaves.

    Maybe we should start doing this but I think Goodwin doesn't favour it

    I personally have no angst over him doing well as a tagger with the Swans.  Good on him

    While I don’t subscribe to all the glitter you put on JJ’s lady quarter heroic boundary highlight it was a pivotal piece of play.

    I feel we are just realising it that like it or not the following players we don’t have now on our list have not been replaced or improved upon in our list with various reasons responsible overall. 

    OUT under our control 

    Grundy *Jordon Harmes  *Bedford Weideman Hunt Baker
    *free agency 

    OUTSIDE our total control.

    Brayshaw Joel Smith.

    IN

    Hunter  Billings Fullarton MCAdam 

    While not all are like for like or ready replacements our list this year was much weaker in depth as a result of 2022 and 2023 trading and delisting. 

    One can’t help thinking that the killers in this argument were Angus Joel Smith Hunt and Bedford with JJ  and Harmes better value also and far more versatile in 2024.

    Really it’s impossible to think that those 10 points for our 1pt  two by 2pts and 5 pt losses to  Blues Port GWS and Lions would not have made a difference over the season. 

    But its been our real inability to I feel make the youngsters as being  a genuine part ( as against a SUB or spare part) like Bedford and JJ that told against in their no doubt close decisions to leave. 

    Others we  have not replaced with superior ability to improve our list and have seen some struggle with no or few AFL games.

    Msybe the Clubs issues we still are not completely aware of have also proved as was Clarry and Trac most importanty being absent or underdone is also worth those games or two. 

    Not sure our Freo(2) Pies(2) Lions at G, WC  Dogs at Marvel and Sydney Zeto round were possible as all were poor performances unlike-any in 2021 to 2023. 

    Trading and Recruiting plus our 2021 culture are the requisite for a big comeback in 2025.

    Goodwin used ANB on Daicos on KB to great success before he got subbed out. NFI why he didn't in last round where he did as he pleased.

    Maybe he is limited to being a tagger but we underutilised Jordon and we've paid a massive price. I still recall Jordan Lewis say he reminds him of a young Simon Black when he arrived at the club 

    I hope him n Grundy win a flag this year but just as happy if Jesse n Toby B win one.

    As always, hindsight is a wonderful thing. He was not in our best 22 last year and very few people thought he was -I still don't see who he would have replaced. So he didn't get a regular game and wanted to try elsewhere. All perfectly fair enough, good luck to him.

    Jordon was a permanent fixture in our premiership year until he got injured. He was underrated by many on Demonland.

    You are kidding. Who do we have as midfielders who can as an inside or outside mid? He's far better than Hunter and Billings.

    He'd probably make a great replacement for ANB now.

    I'm not sure why we don't hard tag opposition players, especially when they start to get on top of us.

    It's a shame he's gone but wish both the Sydney sides the best this year (can't believe I just typed that)

    Agree with others here. Our incomings and outgoings were really terrible last year.

    Hope we do better this year.

    His performance in the last quarter against GWS on Saturday was excellent. Was a prime mover in the Swans comeback with some brilliant plays and serious grunt work around the ground.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
