England cricket team levels of self delusion at the moment.
There’s something to be said for doing everything right and not getting the result, but eventually you have to get the result. We’re going backwards fast..

Oh I get it we are playing the English equivalent to Bazzball, known as Goodyball. Yep that works well🤮

The sky hasn't quite fallen in but right now we are a bit of an 'almost' team. It's got a touch of last year about it re lost momentum and things just not falling into place.

Love what ANB brings to the table but I do agree that he probably needs a wake up call and a spell. Woey or Bailey Laurie should be given a chance at some point.

I’d take last year at this point, we would be so lucky

Just another step back into mediocrity. Our decision making and delivery into the forward line is just abyssmal. Have no idea what our foward coach is telling them to do, but what ever it is, its wrong. Lets move him on now.

ANB is a momentum killer

Runs hard, does lots of 1%ers, can't kick, turns it over at critical times, fumbles incessantly, terrible below the knees for a small forward

Agreed yet we will all be told we don’t understand his role.

Don’t deserve to make top 4 perhaps even finals & such a typical melb list , we have gone backwards & I fear a cliff is coming!

continue to sell games mfc to play for 4 points in a suburban ground ..  don’t see Collingwood doing this, but as long as we can help a community the 4 points mean jack !

ANB can't make a 15m pass to a guy in the clear. I understand he does a lot of good but sheesh his mistakes are telling.

Smith far from our worst.

What was Harmes role?

Brown not too bad in conditions.

Viney a beast

Oliver back next week I hope.

Goodwin I think is the problem.

At least 2 yrs of missing finals, maybe 3 before the club wakes up. By then it's rebuild time.

Exactly my point

Shame we have such a lame forward line, with that midfield and backline.

I’d drop Chandler too

He is no where near what he was first half of the year

Stop with the negative thoughts. We will continue on with our learnings, work on our forward connection and finishing. There were plenty of positives etc etc etc.

you want a reason why we still play games in the nt? This joke of a coach has made this team, the best Melbourne list I have seen us have, into an unwatchable rabble. Our support will be terrible for the rest of the season but so you blame the supporters from giving up?

Usually teams that win a flag lose at least a few assistant coaches so that other teams can get some knowledge from the winning coach.  We haven’t lost anyone and no one wants anyone of our team, the rest of the comp knows that our coach is no good. Shame our club doesn’t. We either have to now rebuild the list or get a new coach. the club has never had the balls to make a hard decision so we will let this joke continue

Hunter, ANB, and even Koz absolutely butcher the ball at times.

I know it was raining but FMD, under 40% DE is deplorable.

Eventually I guess you just have to laugh. From premiers back to our normal historical calamity within about 10 months. We played 3.9 quarters of competent football against Collingwood...the only time anywhere near 4 quarters for over 12 months and then 2 weeks of utter Shi'ite.

These guys are energy suckers and people wonder why our crowd is bored out of their brains watching us play at the 'G. Prideless pea hearts.

Here is a stat to warm the heart; in the last month, we have had 9 more inside 50s than total points scored…

If we are serious as a football team that wants more premierships, his position should be under scrutiny form here onto the end of the season. No top 4? Miss the 8? Maybe we should start looking for other options.

Totally agree, it is tiresome how blindly goody is defended by some especially given our form line and the obvious deficiencies in our game. I will be forever grateful for his efforts in 2021 but the consistent sub-par performances we are churning out has to put pressure on the coach because at the end of the day, the buck starts and stops with him.

Hey @DubDee 👋 just replying to your comment in the GameDay thread which is now closed. I NEVER go on the GameDay thread after the first bounce. I did today because I wanted to share what I hear about Fritta’s injury. Anyways, that’s why I chose to go onto that revolting thread today. Won’t be making that mistake again.

Our forward line is lame however it would look a hell of a lot better if that famed forward line could hit a target on the lead rather than kicking in hope.

You can’t fault the effort or the contested work BUT forward of centre is dreadful. Lumping the ball to a congested goal square will sometimes work IF you have the quality smalls to crumb and score. We don’t have those smalls. We have a serious problem with our forward personnel.

We’re not a bottom 6 side as some on here would have it, but we are a fair way off the likes of Brisbane, Port and Collingwood this year.

What’s the solution? With Fritsch likely out for some time, the coaches will need to radically change things up now. However, the seeming lack of creativity to fix the forward line woes, would suggest we will still keep bombing it in.

On a positive note - Viney was great, McVee fantastic again and a very good first game back for Bowey.

This is 100% a coaching and strategy issue.

Bringing in Brown and Harmes was applauded on this forum. I just can't fathom it. Naturally, JVR killed it at Casey.

I really wish we'd stop with this trying to recapture 2021 form BS. We need to move on otherwise we're going to get caught out and the wheels will fall off.

We lost today at the selection table and in the coach's box.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
