Why would Geelong do that. Would remove an advantage to them. Unfair to expect other teams to play at moggiedishu.

They shouldn't have had any option.

Its just [censored]

I got the definite feeling from listening to Goody's press conference that he actually prefers the 10-day break (with 4 days off) because it is less impactful on their continuity than a 14-day break, and the fact they are training a few times before the Thursday match (including at GMHBA) will be better than losing training time.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you're right. It's a ruse.. psuedo winge about something that's never going to change ;)

I am.one who thinks the slightly longer breaks between games as opposed a "big break" is preferable.

Sorry Max...go to work

Perhaps to prepare them for the finals at the MCG? If that’s where premierships are won, that’s the size of ground for which they should be perfecting their game plan. Or are they afraid of missing the finals altogether?

I’m a believer that all the grounds should be exactly the same size.

I really think unique grounds are an interesting facet of the game to contend with.

I’d like to see some bunkers and blind kicks at goal over trees.

I agree. Different ground sizes and shapes, different conditions etc, add to the game.
Furthermore, as long as the GF continues to be played at our home ground, this is to our advantage.

He's not playing games re Petty. Had a setback, straight lines no problem but agility work still causing discomfort

So he'll be playing his usual defender role then

Thinking of heading down but there's that awful feeling of funding the Cats' coffers with a pretty hefty $120 for two seats in a bog ordinary stadium that doesn't sit well.

Any recommendations for a decent drinking hole pre-match if i do though?

Injury report hardly giving me any confidence in Oliver playing 😔

He won't be playing.

If Oliver, Petty and Bowey are all fit to play it will be one of the most interesting selection nights for a while.

Would it be the first time for Melbourne that all 3 ins are players with beautiful red hair?

That’s one hell of an infected blister

I have also heard the same thing😬

My take is that we are confident enough in our midfield and  Sparrow to cover for Oliver, that we're giving him another week off. 😀

Essentially, we don't rate them...🤷‍♂️

Deakin Uni (read Geelong FC) invested/received funding of $8m+ to upgrade their footy oval to exact MCC dimensions and orientation (as well as other sporting facility upgrades). Geelong trains there for finals and when they can't use KP. You may think that's great for Deakin Uni Football teams, but there aren't any in Geelong (only Burwood and Warrnambool). It's just for the cats.

Clarry looked thinner at training, I wonder if he has lost some muscle as a result of the infection?

Yep. A true elite team wins anywhere.

And it wouldn't be an issue at all if there was a fair fixture.

Bowey is fit surely. He's had plenty of time to recover from the concussion. Going by Goody's presser today, I'd say he isn't in the frame this week.

I also hope he's full recovered, but we need to remember that every concussion does not necessarily heal following a standard timeline. The 12 day compulsory time off is just a minimum figure. The clubs have a responsibility to make sure all players are given all the time they need to recover, however long it takes.

Bowey was concussed on 27 May so that makes it 27 days to Thursday night’s game.

The Swan in Perth is a good joint, you can go there, watch the game and still have change in your pocket - free of the guilt for supporting the Catty Puts in their rip-off endeavours. :-)

Hibberd, Smith and Spargo for me. Smith a tough one.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
