Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Agree.

I think one of Tomlinson or T Mac has to play as a defender to help support May and Lever.

Lever had an awful game statistically with just 2 marks, well down from his typical 5-6 marks a game, while May only got 8 possessions which is simply unheard of. The only games for Melbourne where he's gotten single digit possessions were games where he went off injured.

I get that Tommo plays more bad games than good post his ACL but I think our defensive structure needs to be looked at.

Kick ins from behinds scored by the opposition count as disposals, don't they? In which case, May's 8 possessions may include some of these statistical gifts.

Only if you step outside the goal square, which is almost all the time

Hopefully we bounce back after two losses. Our fwd line worries me still. Need to change something.  I'd drop Tmac for any of the talls in reserve. Jvr is bound to start marking a few from those leaps/ crashes.

I keep waiting for our small brigade to cause mayhem. Is this the round?

We will rally and put us back in the winning column. Just can't afford to drop another game. Simple.

1 hour ago, whatwhat say what said:

it's inevitable that cerra will get off

and the instability will surely see them have a backs-to-the-walls win

I'm sorry, NO.

If the AFL let that go then its mass-confusion to the power of a billion.

I regularly speak to another Dees supporter at our games , who has to accompany his wife to watch some Carlton games. As she is a Blues supporter, and for some reason drags him along! He says,

based on what he seen this year , we should beat them easily.

I thought May defended pretty well and worked back into some form  (not implying you think otherwise)

I told you already, he will not miss even a second of football. The best lawyers in town are suiting up to ensure that not only does he get off, the AFL pays Carlton damages for emotional distress caused.

Surprised people are just catching on to this?

Why do you think he's always attempting don't argues and gets pinged straight away and then it kills momentum. The dude is a wannabe Dusty.

His sole role in the team should be a tagger first and foremost or nothing else. Goodwin has now shown he's not willing to run a tagger in the team anymore which means Harmes has no place in the side and simply should not be playing because he doesn't add much either way.

Found myself screaming “YOU’RE NOT THAT GUY” at Harmes on too many occasions last Saturday

It still annoys me that we brought Harmes straight back in from the VFL after he struggled to make the side, and poor JJ was again relegated to the sub role.

What on earth does JJ have to do to get a full game, and what will we learn about Harmes as a player that we don't already know?

I think that in the absence of Oliver, possibly one of the greatest ever mids who will never be replaced, we should take the opportunity to explore different options. JJ, Laurie, Rivers, Kosi, Woewodin.... these are the guys I want to see get midfield opportunities. I know what I am getting from Harmes. It is neither great nor terrible, but if you can't replace Oliver anyway, you may as well try to unearth something new in his absence.

And if you play Harmes, why are you playing Viney in a negating role, when Harmes has shown time and time again how good he is at tagging?!

If he stays in this week, and Cripps gets up, I want him to wear Cripps like a glove.

I 2nd this.

Harmes should only be brought in purely if we want a hard tag on someone which we barely do now days. If that's the case, then he stays at Casey. I thought initially they would have brought Harmes in for Sparrow to play to do a job on Butters but wasn't the case.

Selection are just as confusing as last year.

For the love of god bring Ben Brown in. Yes he’s terrible when the ball goes to ground but so is the rest of our list. Need a target.

YEP! We need a target ..... who leads out to space (and teammates who support such initiatives).

JJ in. Harmes to tag (perhaps, Cripps) - someone who is potentially prolific.

i can only guess we wanted someone that can hit the scoreboard more than JJ. Harmes had 3 shots, skimmed the post and missed a sitter. on another day he would have had 3 goals  Harmes is a tease as he plays the odd great game

having said that i agree with your post

We could have played JJ for a whole game and let Sparrow push forward more. He’s a far better and more reliable goal scorer these days than Harmes.
I think ultimately we wanted to replace the experienced mature body of Clarry with another experienced mature big bodied player. If Dunstan was fit I reckon we would have played him ahead of Harmes.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
