We didn’t deserve to win, but we were good enough to get close.

Port are being well coached this year. They have a few spuds that are playing decent, hard football.

Very concerned about our record against top 8 teams.

Didn’t deserve it.

Terrible at clearances, terrible at getting the ground ball, terrible tackling (in the last quarter ANB actually stood flat-footed while he watched a Port Player gathered the ball and had to time to dispose of it before going in for the tackle) went to water under pressure.

I said last week that good teams willl destroy us, we have been beating up on mediocre teams and got found out tonight.

We need more speed in the side, Hunter hasn’t done anything for weeks.

That boundary throw in at the end was comically bad but didn’t cost us the game.

Definitely not blaming umpiring but there were some real howlers and non calls in that last 5 mins along with a pathetic throw in at 15 seconds left.

First quarter was terrible but can’t be overly disappointed with the loss. Port are a good team and that was hostile territory. We did well to be in a winning position and they just go on top of us. Need to sort out these quarters where our mids seemingly go missing.

Been beaten in centre clearance this year more than I can remember since 2013

Aside from half a quarter, we were a very poor, uninspiring team outclassed by a better team.

We came in soft beating up on bad teams and tonight were shown up by a contender. Another loss to a team in the 8. Not a good look.

Ah well we’ll always have 2021 😔

Can’t expect to win games of footy with 15-20 minutes at this level, especially as we start playing better sides.

I hope there are a few blokes feeling guilty for some appalling efforts.

We lack a bit of appetite for the contest and have an air of arrogance about us at the moment.

Not sure we are where we hope to be at this stage of the year, particularly from a gameplay and cohesion standpoint

Would've been good to make Butters accountable after collecting 35,000 disposals in the first half? Rotate Hibberd, Riv and ANB off him. When a guy is completely off the chain he has to be stopped

Pressure and clearance won the game/lost the game.

We expected too much from too few, with only some superhuman efforts getting us a whisker in front.

Pressure is the way to beat Narrm.

Very few winners tonight and way too many guys went missing.

We played one great quarter and were flogged in 3. Questions will rightly be asked about our ability to beat other contenders.

Disappointed, but we got what we deserved.

Story same as our wins

20/30 minute's doesn't cut it against top 8 sides

We are making up the numbers this year. We aren’t anywhere near good enough for a flag.

Pathetic effort to play for 10mins of one quarter - we got what we deserved even with the shafting by the umpires.

You look at our lineup on paper and just wonder how we can be so ordinary so often when coming up against the better teams.

We seem to be smack bang in the middle of wasting the best group of MFC talent we may see in our lifetimes.

Then again, maybe our guys are just a bit overrated.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
