Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He’s serviceable. It’s still the glaring gap on our list moving into next year.

My point was at this stage he's serviceable as a forward and if it clicks, he'll be more. As Goodwin intimated in the presser, they want to give it a further try. Let's see if it works.

You know they're on the bottom of the ladder with one win (vs North) and a percentage of 61.6%?

They are below West Coast who have about 25 fit players, half of whom should be nowhere near AFL selection.

Really interested to hear that it seems Smith is now in front of Brown in the selection order.

Brown went from two of his better games for us, ever, to an innocuous back injury, to completely out of form and now apparently not really that close to selection. A really disappointing two months for him.

I've never been a Smith fan. I'm still not. We can't trust his body and I'm not sure he's smart enough to play forward. But I'm happy to be proven wrong - he was starting to prove me wrong in the first month last year as a defender before he got injured.

Fitness isn’t the problem, if anything he might be too fit and we might’ve trained the speed out of him.

This comment is almost as good as my "Salem's body type is that of an ectomorph" circa 2015.

A week off or cutting his game time down towards 70% could help. But we might have to wait until the bye to see if there’s much change with a freshen up.

From a fitness or sports science point of view are you able to elaborate further on what exact this even means??

They're tanking SONS. I expect them to be decent early before falling away in the second half. It's been the pattern of their season so far.

How so DS?

Could it be too much time in the weight room or maybe too much focus on the aerobic endurance fitness and not enough high intensity anaerobic stuff like sprints? Keen to hear your thoughts.

I’m one of those whose firmly of the belief that Petty is currently a better option forward.

Petty serves two roles. He takes the opposition key defender and playmaker like Collins from GC or McCartin/McDonald from Sydney, Weitering from Carlton, McGovern from WCE etc and tries to stop their intercept marks. Against Geelong he would probably play Stewart and against the Pies probably Mihocek.

The other is clearly to mark and kick goals himself.

He isn't being recognised on here for the first paragraph.

Maybe but he's sure not performing the second. I do think he's a great defender.

It's not to say he can't play forward.  It may take him some time to learn the craft but I'm not sure we can risk it. Certainly not with a 6 gamer playing alongside him. I hope I'm wrong.

IMHO

Retain Disco with Petty forward.

Hibberd in, Gus to the midfield rotation and JJ to the sub (nothing against James Harmes who I think has been a good sub the last two weeks)

J.Smith for JVR if he doesn't get off - may as well have a look at him forward at this stage.

But that means Harmes, Spargo, Laurie and Salem don't have match play this week ...

BBB and TMac too, but maybe they can both benefit from a(nother) week off

Lost in the JVR focus this week was Goodwin's comments during his presser yesterday about team selection.

He said, clearly, we're keeping Petty forward. The FD like what they see there. Similarly, they're not quite happy with Brown and have him working on things at VFL level. Goodwin didn't want to comment on who gets JVR's spot if the appeal fails but I suspect it won't be Brown; probably Smith, knowing how the FD think.

Regardless of Brown's form, I don't like Petty forward and IMO I think we're barking up the wrong tree there, but the FD have a view and it's going to be persisted with.

Hibberd sounds like he's coming straight back in, probably for Turner I'd imagine, and then it's hard to know if Spargo gets his spot back.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
