Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

@Demonland

Andy, I just posted the above in the 2023 Fixture thread. Should I remove my post to avoid doubling up?

My mfcss says they will make us play it in Darwiin:  longer flights, hotter more humid weather and longer recovery time.😬

For a full blown mfcss they will probably schedule it as a day game and give us a 6 day break afterwards. 🙄

think as Eddie would..

this is a football wide issue on which the national code must take a stand. It is not appropriate that the NT be compensated by a game in Darwin nor is it equitable that the financial burden should fall on the competing clubs. A compensatory payment should be made by the AFL equal to what the competing clubs would have received

Good.

Move it back to the MCG where we need as much opportunity to prefect our form and game plan prior to finals.

We’ve gone from 3 interstate trips in the early 90’s to 8 this year.

Our schedule has become way more taxing since we’ve sold home games and more interstate sides have come in, whilst less games to attend for the heart and soul of the membership.

Apparently the Council stopped some of the games being played in town due to a range of problems including violence.

Instead of threatening to move the game the AFL should talk to the Council & the NT government & local community groups & look at some solutions to the main issue.

If the MFC are even half serious about finishing top 4 and ultimately winning a flag this year, we as members should  expect the club to decline the offer and associated money attached to a Darwin home game.

We play a hard running and disciplined St Kilda at Marvel the following week, and playing in Darwin would be woeful preparation ahead of the game.

With that being said, I’m sure this issue will get resolved and the Alice game goes ahead.

Of course we have, the number of interstate sides has doubled since then.

The heart and soul of the membership can only attend games in Melbourne? 🤔  Interesting viewpoint.

That was a mostly rushed post on my part to be fair. But I will say this:

1) Had we not sold a game this year and the AFL would stop their fascination with scheduling us down at Hobart every year aside from 2022, we’d have 6 games, which is the same as Collingwood, our direct competitor for this year’s flag. 8 interstate trips is too many IMO and the club needs to seriously look at this, if last weeks flat performance against Essendon is a portent of things to come.

So I agree with you that the interstate teams have doubled since 1991 and we should be playing more interstate games, but why are we playing 8 interstate games as opposed to 6 like Collingwood?

2) where in my post did i say the heart and soul can ONLY attend games in Melbourne? I posted that there are less games for Victorian based MFC members to attend games in VIC. Whether they have the time and finances to go to 2-4 interstate games a year is their prerogative.

I'm not sure the number of interstate games is the major issue.

The question is can mfc do the preparation and recovery better.  In the past week:

  • we caught the red eye back and flew out again a few days later for the Gather round
  • Freo stayed in Adelaide before the Gather round
  • Bulldogs went from Adelaide to Perth for last nights game

Freo and Bulldogs effectively cut out an interstate trip.  We chose to fly back and take the red eye.

A lot to learn form those experiences.

And it is our choice to invest in and play in Alice.

8 interstate games is a bit of a shock and definitely too many. The club may have just let this happen in the past but we're at the point where we should be pushing back on this.

Flight booked, Accommodation booked, Entertainment package with MFC booked, all because a) I want to see the game in Alice and b) Because the AFL don't release the game time before round 10 and I missed out last year because all the Accommodation was booked and the flights were 5 times the price. If this game gets cancelled I will expect a full refund from......Somebody

Easier said than done.

  • Our contract with MCC is for 9 Home MCG games.  I believe Collingwood and Richmond have a higher number of Home games at the G.
  • We get a 10th at the G to offset the loss of Alice for members.
  • We get a couple of 'extras' at the G by playing 'Away' games vs other MCG tennants:  2 'extra' in 2023
  • If we bring Alice back home we lose the offset game.
  • To play more games in Victoria would mean playing more at Marvel.
  • By my reckoning the sum of these is why we play at the Cattery each year.
  • To play those interstate games at the G means mediocre crowds at best.
  • We aren't going to get more than one maybe two repeat games at the G against the big clubs.

Very tricky for the club to balance all these.

Anytime, anyone, anywhere!

Just wish it was better. Why do Collingwood and Richmond have more games in their contract? Is it just member numbers?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
