17 points down and I'll take it. Probably should be 30 down. Don't blame the umps as, for the most part, we're second to the contest.

Cocky not to play Brown. Pure and simple. We went in expecting a win.

Melks been good but yea not enough marking power. We so need Bbb. Jvr young and I've said my bit about our other tall.

And if we play him people have a go for playing underdone players and not resting them. Can't win.

Ok, not a free to Spargo.

But not a f$$$ing free against either!

Again… should have been a free against. He had a mark (prior opp) played on, ducked and didn’t dispose of it. HTB every day.

I’ll be the first to stay I could see this coming… but to be honest I still have that feeling before every game. The benefits of being a Melbourne supporter.

Not after you belt Sydney who is a quality side unlike Essendon.

So much for our supposed depth 🤮

Useless all over the ground. Goodwin also struggles to coach against Brad Scott for some reason.

Petty in a lot of trouble, looks like ribs. Bowser seeing stars and prob concussed

May hardly sighted, Stringer keeping him away from Draper and Philips inside their 50

Goodwin needs to rethink and reset. Time to move a couple of chess pieces around. Could've been a lot further behind than 17

Good news is that they can’t play much better and we have much we can improve on. Not losing to those cheats in Adelaide.

Hope you are right     but we are so off today

Might have changed your mind ..windy ..a bit of rain & no BB 🤔

Nope wind of little consequence inside the ground, no rain, BB out had nothing to do with the weather.

He isn’t underdone. He’s trained this morning. We didn’t play him because we expected rain.

Essendon's gameplan is working perfectly, the two tall combo is working a treat. Great job Scott, he's done his homework.

Arrogance. From Goodwin and Grundy to 15 others. Not working hard enough. Not going in.

I hope Tmac is sent back the twos for much more than a week. Didn't touch it that quarter.  No tackles. No marks. No intensity.

We so miss Max's marking.

I think TMac needs to go back, maybe Petty forward or just play a small forward line. Whatever the midfield will have to get right on top if we are to win this.

Right call not to play another tall, we’re already getting chopped up by Essendon runners, but it should’ve been Brown in, if healthy, and T Mc out.

We’ve been seduced by Tommy’s flat track goals against the eagles reserves

Sorry but van Rooyen is dreadful today

Yep ... young fellas gonna have ups & downs.

Also though our delivery inside has been bog ordinary.

Add to that no Macca, no Kozzy and Tracc' rushed donkey kick at goal.

Fritta & Melk's kick around the cormer when it appeared they had options to handball to for a better shot 👎🏼

Grundy's work with the ball 50/50 and doesnt push back hard enough to cover their talls pushing forward

Looking pretty ordinary at this point.

One move they need to make is Kozzy into the middle.  I would also sub Spargo off for JJ from here on

I struggle to know how we'll get back into this unless Oliver turns it on in the second half.

We have a tall problem.

Langdon our best.

TMac to the back flank to support the aerial Contest.

Grundy needs to lift as well, has looked second rate defensively against two ruckmen who have kicked half of their goals.

I must be at a different ground 😏

A few selfish things by our fowards today.

The positive is we have a half to sort this out. The bad news is essendons confidence is up

Our good players need to lift. Oliver, trac, hunter, McDonald & Viney.

I see max there. come on max fire your team up

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
