Had a very shaky first year with us but since then has been outstanding. Has 1 AA jacket and unlucky not to have a second. Hopefully he has learned from his entrecôte misadventure and swears off the grog. If he does then no reason why he won’t be a key plank in our defence for the duration of this contract.

I think you’ll find that he has 2 AA blazers.
that entrecôte [censored] was was a storm in a tea cup.

Can only go by his face but looks like he’s dropped a few kg’s.

A few kgs? From his face?

I had no idea his face was that fat.

Thanks Lucifer for the info. On the extension and I am assuming May was not a flight risk, is the extension at a considerably lower amount?, and is the club trying to free up funds for a Kosi resigning.

I’m assuming the club will need to pay up for Kosi.

There is no way of knowing what May's $ will be.  Generally the club has been very fair in its player remuneration and that May has not dragged out the negotiations suggests both parties are happy.  I guess that is all that counts.

With Kozzie, from news reports his reasons for leaving are about where he wants to live.   There hasn't been much on the $ side of it.   I would be surprised if the club were to under value him $ wise.  Having said that he seems set for a stellar year which would make his value go up.  I'm confident the club will find the money if that becomes the deal breaker.

All that aside, Kozzie seems a really decent guy and would not forget the support and trust the club has put in him when facing challenges.  That may not be enough to keep him but it would be in his thinking.

Buddy says " That's it!. I'm retiring at end of year. No way am I playing on Steven May for a further two years. Luckily I only have one more game to play on him"

Wonderful news.

3 more years of wonderful backline leadership form May and Lever for our premiership standard defence.

Great news Maysie. Congrats on extending your time at the Dees. Let's make it a big 3 flags!!! Great that you are seeing the promise in the team.

Great re signing !!!!!!

After the one ( so far) training session I've attended this year , I named May as my stand out contributor for the session.

He looked to me like a man with a lot of footy left in him!

Agree although I always feel that Steven is  on the edge physically and mentally. Just a feeling without any strong reasons.

I think both you and I and over 300,000 Dees fans know the reasons and it is when he loses his judgement and has a session on the grog. Both his misdemeanours have occurred with us after drinking spells and we all know the evils and of human beings failings in this regard.

Maysie is human so we are at the back of our minds hoping that this does not rest it's ugly head again in the next 3 years.

Stephsn is otherwise an extraordinarily well committed player and Club man who if he plays out his career like his last 3 years with us may well be judged our greatest full back ever if we jag another one or two flags between now and the 25/26 seasons. Tassie Johnson is without  peer still but Maysie is probably a more overall influence in defence out on the field in the games he plays.

I've only attended one training session as well and came to the same conclusion (like on previous gamedays across the last few years) that May is both highly respected by teammates and leads by example, with continuous encouragement to all members of the team. This level of involvement in the game or at training sessions really does stand out.

Interesting to see Cal Twomey report that Steven May quietly signed a one-year extension over summer, tying him to the club until the end of 2026.

I think this is great news personally. A 34 year old May is still going to be in our best side and it's pleasing to know the passion is still there at his end. I was resigned to losing him after 2025.

I actually think players can play alot longer these days as long as the injuries stay away

a 54 year old May would still be in our best side

Maybe he can be our Paolo Maldini.

Play him forward. He can take contested marks and he can kick straight

I'm happy. We lack key position players especially developing in defence. I'm thinking TMac might even get another year purely as depth depending on how he finishes the year.

Play until he's 42, that would be nice.

He’d need to kick 20 goals a game to offset the punishing our backline would receive

Great decision by Steven and the club, what a great mentor for our young backs, just got to recruit a couple.

Steven May, l’m met him briefly at ‘The Cot’ day after the Grand Final. In a word ‘Stentorian’. Expect he will add some real lead to the Demon pencil this weekend.

Pleased this ‘under the radar’ extension has been agreed. Recalls Stills-Young titled song and album.

“Long May You Run”.

May’s body is not holding up as well as I’d hope. He is incredibly vulnerable when the ball is below his knees and with more agile forwards. With the way the game is going I honestly thought it would be his last year this year. Happy to be proven wrong though.

I agree he struggled in that space last year after the rib injury that he came back from after missing one game but I'd suggest we judge if that still the case once he gets a couple of games under his belt this year,

I watched the all stars v Freo game and I know it was a bit of hit and giggle but he was dominant and moving very well in that game

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
