Reckon he’s definitely worth enquiring about. As other posters have said blokes like Petracca, Harmes, Neal-Bullen, Hibberd and Hunter etc won’t be around forever and it’s important to keep chasing the next generation of young talented players when they’re available. I’d say it’s also dependent on what our plans are for the draft, whether we’re all in on Reid or if we take those four early picks and find other avenues to top up other areas of need.

 

I’d also be on board to poach him for the sake of rustling Fremantles’ jimmies

Why would we rule him out.. ?

I can't understand it. We need speed, class, foot skills. The ability to turn no opportunity into an opportunity. 

He has the same skill set as Kossie just without the hardness. He's a former top 10 pick who we could get for a second round pick at the highest. 

We better be looking at him. He's mates with Kossie, you know playing with your mates can completely change an environment and therefore one's performance. 

We simply need more x factor, danger and classy opportunists in our side. And a far better balance of skill set across the ground. 

If we don't go hard for him, I'll be super disappointed. 

Playing him inside 50 could give even more opportunity for Kosi to play midfield minutes which we need. 

The bottom line is we need players who just don't waste their possessions and can turn chains of possessions into scores or scoring opportunities.

Doesn't feel like the sort of game we'd play though, but we are having to deal with Peter Bell.

If the frame is we don't absolutely love him at all costs and we're happy to move on, but for the right price we could get a deal done, then our alleged cooling makes sense.

Yeh but is that the journo trying to make sense of Chandler's extension? Or is that news from within? 

Small forwards are important, especially mercurial ones.

Thanks for sharing. Strange though as Henry isn’t a small forward, he’s a rebounding half back flanker or potential wingman. He plays a different role to Chandler, so it’s strange they’re being linked.

The reason I think they play a better style is multifaceted. I can see you're looking through the gameplan lense only and I'll get to that in a minute. 

Firstly, I think they play a brand of football that is unbelievably exciting, fast paced, fun and ultimately brings hoards of supporters through the gate and gives them huge viewership on TV. So the first point is that they play a brand of football that their supporters love to watch. 

Secondly, their style of play inspires and motivates their players. This is another overlooked factor in why they are performing in games. Arousal levels are remain consistently high because they play fun footy, their fun footy attracts crowds, their arousal levels go up again. It's a fantastic symbiotic relationship that has been working for them pretty much since fly joined but most definitely since midway through last year. The same cannot be said for us, can it? 

Now getting to the game-style part of the question. 

I don't think I need to give any more evidence than what is already laid bare. From midway through last year, right through to now, they have played a much more consistent brand of footy compared to us. 

A point that can't be argued with. They have won more games, been in games for longer and closed games better than us. 

Every side has an Achilles heel. So the only point I agree on is that Collingwood's desire to play fast paced, numbers around the ball style of footy does leave them vulnerable at the back.

But to what degree is that a problem for them right now and since midway last year? It's simply not! Because they are so efficient going forward and have such a strong offensive game. The other thing is, they have unbelievably good one on one key defensive players in Darcy Moore and Brayden Maynard who refuse to give up. If it is a roll of the dice as you say, they must be the luckiest sporting team to ever exist given their win/loss ratio since midway last year. I think we all know what they're achieving is more than just luck, you included under that cloud of Collingwood hate. 

As far as comparing their style to our 2018 style. I think it's a silly comparison given the in-season results as well as the personnel on lists at the time. Our second half of '18 was nowhere near as consistent as their second half of' 22. And look at what happened to us in 2019?

We made finals and played two rippers in 2018. They steam rolled their way to a prilim with consistently good football from mid season and lost by a couple of points to an interstate side at home. We got walloped and broke some records along the way against an interstate side. 

Our vulnerabilities were a constant threat in every game we played and were constantly an issue throughout the season. You simply can't say the same for Collingwood. 

And lastly. I completely disagree about the 'hype' thing. Any side who performs like this will get media attention. Collingwood are a Victorian club so you're obviously going to read more about them here. But any club who would be performing this way consistently would be getting the media attention they deserve on all sports media.

You're living in a Collingwood hatred bubble. 

They're onto a good thing. The evidence is everywhere and the positives that come from the way they're playing are multifaceted. 

Our FD are wasting our talent, we play talented players out of position, we play a boring and vanilla style of football, our game-day arousal levels are always inconsistent and we have a supporter base who pick and choose when to come to games in part for the reasons I've stated.

I don't think I have read a single positive thought about our club from you.

On one thread you say we have a talented list. On another thread you say Clarry and Trac are ball butchers and that we are better without Clarry.

What joy do you actually get from supporting a team that has been far more successful than Collingwood over the past 3 seasons? It seems none.

I am really sad that we have supporters who have clearly lived through some horrific times with the club, and yet are still so negative all the time about where the list and club is currently at. What a waste of a good era for you! 

No team or list is perfect. We have flaws, and we have room to improve. So does Collingwood. If you think McRae is sitting back smoking a cigar and thinking his work is done and they got the flag in the bag, I have news for you. He'd be looking at their contested ball numbers, their clearance numbers, their ability to defend on turnover, and he will be looking at ways to improve that because he is a great coach. And any great coach knows how different finals are. A team that is not consistently winning the contested ball, rarely wins the premiership. 

The Pies play a really fun game to watch, I completely agree. They are very entertaining, because chaos is entertaining. It means they are almost always risking losing thanks to high turnover numbers, it is a very risky game style, and they pull it off better than anyone. The real test will come in finals. Last year this game style did not stack up against the sides who beat you in contest and defence (Geelong and Sydney). Will it fare differently this season? Maybe. Maybe not.

Henry’s never been a small forward, he’s always been a wingman, his improved form this year has been because Freo have trusted him on the wing for a longer period. So I’m surprised Chandler has any bearing on a decision to target him.

And whilst I’d be desperate to get anyone half decent in to replace Hunter (and potentially Langdon sooner than later) we do have Lachie for another year. As well as Woewodin, Howes and likely some early picks to slot in somewhere.

Maybe the Dees only view him as a forward because they don’t trust his contested work and lack of size for the wing? And there’s no point recruiting someone to play out of position.

He's never been a small forward?

He played the entirety of his under 18's year as a half forward and winger. Are you trying to be technical? He is under 180 cm tall and has played a lot of football forward. Therefore, a small forward.

Early days with Freo he played forward also.

I think he could add to us, I think he's got a skill set we need, I think I'd rather have him in the side over Spargo and even ANB sometimes.

I think him being close to Kosi would bring the best out of both of them and allow Kosi to further explore a move up the field as he's got the grunt to compete in contested situations.

Get over it. Everyone views the club and team through a different set of eyes. Whilst I go with blind optimism, The Big Fella is more circumspect in his support. His views are all part of the mix.
