You can tell the tennis has finished now. It’s all about footy very soon.

Picks 48, 57 and a future 12th rounder from Freo for Pickett, Ralph reckons

I was thinking a 3rd rounder for Henry...more like it

I was a huge fan of his draft year.

Plays that outside mid/half forward role and would certainly compliment Kozzie well on field.

Henry’s yet to play any role at afl level with success and hasn’t looked up for the physicality.

He’s still young and might improve but he’s far from a priority at the moment. His best trait might be his kicking and he might end up a half back rather than a wing or forward.

Also I’m all for being pragmatic, if Henry does make Pickett stay then maybe it’s worth it, but it’s a little insulting to Kossie to suggest he’d make a decision purely based on bringing in a friend.

Seems to be more common with Indigenous players too. No one was saying we should trade for Trey Ruscoe to get Jacko to stay

Can’t cope with a year of this

This is dribble........ a nothing story only designed for the eyes of tragic like us.  Pure speculation, nothing exciting, it the creation of news by the journalist.

He is worth more than LJ and after paying overs for LJ, I just can’t see Freo doing the same thing for Kozzy - particularly when they have other youngsters who’ll be demanding some of that pie.

Power have nothing to trade with as a future first ain’t going to do it.

Would he go to WC or Adelaide?

Hopefully just posturing and he’ll sign before season starts.

Got no idea how Jon Ralph has a job. When they go to him on Fox I turn the TV over!

Made up dribble is what I say.I do believe with Byron back in WA , Kossi May go back there, but, later on.I think he will sign either a two/3 year contract to stay before round 1- I hope I am wrong and signs for 6/7.

I'd throw up.

There was some mention during the trade period last year that Henry might become part of the Luke Jackson trade but it came to nothing. You would think if the Kozzie-Henry friendship meant as much as is being implied in this “news” then the club would surely have tried a bit harder to get Henry across at the time.

At this stage, 3 more years plus this year, being the next four years, would be fantastic news.

Rivers is Jackson's best mate and that didn't stop him from leaving. So this notion of bringing Henry to make Kozzi stay is fugazi. If i was him I would be weighing up playing finals consistently over the next 5 years and becoming a star player ala "Cyril" that could possibly play in several more Premierships or go to lesser club in West Coast or Adelaide who are years away from contending for a Premiership. Freo and Port simply don't have the picks to get Kozzi unless they throw in a Young/Serong or a Dursmaa/Georgiades which they simply won't do.

But, seriously, we already have Fremantle's first and second round picks for 2023, don't we?

They've got some later exchanged picks from North but are basically out of the top-20 picks.

Getting Liam Henry to the Demons is certainly worth considering. Not delivered much yet but the Freo goalkicking group includes Frederick, Walters & Schultz who combined for about 90 goals between them, as well as plenty of other lighter-bodied speedy types rotating through.

Given that I'm convinced a dedicated fast small defender is something we should be looking for anyway, the suggestion that he could make the positional switch seems sound to me. He's also a pretty good run-and-bounce option to give us another way out of our half-back swamp.

He looked really good on the weekend from what I saw.

But prior to that has looked bog average. An interesting one...

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
