You no doubt think your amusing but it wouldn't be the first time you turned out to be a fool. If you've been here long enough you'll know I will own my mistaken beliefs. In your case I will say I don't suffer fools gladly and if I'm the one I'll own it.

No I don't. If I'm the fool. I'm sure I won't pity you either.

Jackson was garbage against Freo last year averaging all of 1 mark in both games for someone that’s probably taller than 85-90% of the league.

If Kozzie has a stinker against Port in round 10, I’m panicking.

Ooh can we have some more? 😄

I think what this situation is really missing is Mick Malthouse's opinion.

He most certainly did.

One of the most dominant match winning performances I've seen from an MFC player. Was the clear difference in a win or a loss.

Yep

wonder when interest moves to concern and then to worry. From there it's despair before angry acceptance.

From a trade aspect I have no idea what the correct tactics are but I hope we have a better plan than we did for Jackson.

Have great sympathy for our list/salary cap management staff. The general rule is that players are well paid until say 25 years of age at which time they get the big deal. We were unlucky that Jackson got the mega deal offer at 21. Looking like Kozzie will get a similar offer.

A perfect storm when for the first time in decades we have 5 plus very good/elite players in the over 25 brigade

2 days before the deadline..and Feb still hasn't committed. Jan and March may just have to play larger roles if it leaves.

Genuine question. What better plan do you think the Club could have had for Jackson. Obviously it was a dud trade but what better trade do you think could have been achieved. They didn't have any better picks to offer. Similarly Port don't have a first rounder in this draft. They'll have to give up something serious to get a first rounder this year. Next year's first rounder won't do it. I hope. Surely they'd have to lose a player or players to make it happen this trade period. I'm sure the Club has tried very hard to avoid another Jackson circus so you'd have to think that's been a fail and the writing is on the wall.

Pickett may leave or he may not. If we win the Premiership this year at the G he can play for Collingwood in 24 for all I’ll care!

As I said in my post I have no idea but it's clear that the Jackson strategy failed. They've had a year to think up a better one.

At the start of the Jackson saga most said Freo didn't have the "trade resources" but turned out they did. The problem is that if you offer a player mega dollars no other club than the offering club is likely to compete. That leaves you with the choice of taking what is offered or forcing the player into the PSD.

One strategy is to get other clubs interested in the player. If needed offer to pay part of the salary for a few years. Assuming you can attract interest from elsewhere and thus scaring off the "attacking club" the player is more likely to stay. Not perfect by any means but it's a strategy.

Except that if he wants to get away from Melbourne ( the city...not the club) and if wants to be in SA then its only two clubs isn't it. Then, if he's made up his mind on one of them, then its the Jackson scenario repeated. Losing Kozzy would be an even more bitter pill to swallow imo. Hard to know if theres any strategy we can employ in this circumstance.

Just thinking out loud.

Wouldn't it be great if this thread was closed down until Kozzy signs on with us.

Don't think I could stand another Jacko thread.

This thread has a stench about it that reeks of the poor Melbourne of old. Lets close it down and instead celebrate when Kozzy signs a long term deal.

Similar to what Binman said about LJ, is Pickett what Port need? Obviously he’s a class player and every club would love to have him on their list but at what cost. Have they got bigger needs? Having said that we still don’t know how good he will get.

If Koz is going to play a greater role in midfield, there is no way he signs before season kicks off.

If he signs now and has a blazing start to the season, he’d be leaving a heap of cash on the table. Would love for him to sign, but I think he’ll hold off until he’s had a chunk of the season behind him to help add to his case.

IMO if he wanted to stay he would have signed by now. Time will tell.

Hopefully he has a good season and keeps his trade value up so that we can hopefully get a good deal for him.

It’s annoying as I thought our good players would want to stay (I know some have already extended) given the position we are in now.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
