Pete Ryan who is one journalist I respect highly has released this article.

Melbourne are well aware there will be suitors but are in open dialogue with Pickett’s management and comfortable their premiership forward is happy with coach Simon Goodwin, his teammates and the way his career has been managed. Sources close to Pickett also confirmed he loves playing with Melbourne.

All true but he hates living in Melbourne. Any chance we can make a few modifications to the City?

Get rid of docklands for a start.

Hi 58er,

Didn't mean to come across as negative,

I suppose another year of speculation sounds exhausting,

In relation to your response, GC from 2011 to very recently were rot,

As were we from 2011-16,

So yes retention was difficult,

And you're right,Jackson, has been the only player of note in the past few years to leave, probably because we haven't been rot,

Hence why arguably at the peak of our powers, it would be strange for 2 premiership players to leave, when money is a non-issue.

I'm presenting a hypothetical based on Pickett leaving (whether he is intending to I have no idea)

However last year's French Farce (LJ apparently taking up until the last hour to make up his mind) still lingers.

If Pickett has already made his mind up to leave, I'd rather play Chandler instead (or Laurie).

 Ever heard about LJ episode.
Think it's really that no one was advising him and delayed it because he was scared?

Club  have Exit interviews every season on the first 3 days after season finish so don't believe the farce you advised!

That's  before Trade period snd I deny case the MFC presumed in its planning LJ was leaving. Whst snout his Manager ?

Much the same way 'Robbo' writes his stories. Has anyone seen 'Robbo' and 58er in the same room? Just saying...

Fwiw Byron Pickett's son Bryon Pickett jnr (Kozzie's cousin) has just moved down to Melbourne this week and I believe will be living with Kozzie and Trent Burgoyne.

And if Liam Henry is definitely coming to a Victorian club next year, as Ralphy reports, even if it isn’t with the Dees, he could still live with Kozzie.

If that's what you think will make him stay then you're all crazy

I say throw a plane in with his next contract and let him commute to training from wherever he likes

I wonder if we rookie Burgoyne to possibly appease Kozzie or we go for Turner

Turner and offer Burgoyne a spot with Casey.

Also the abandonment of ‘,,,’ instead of an actual ellipsis means he was doing it as a diabolical attack on the sanity of yours truly all these years.

Media is loving this. Constant speculation about which club or state he goes to.

Luke Jackson Mark 2.

Who is next? Rivers is OOC.

Other clubs cut deals around this time why cant we?

Pay overs for both if necessary.

I agree Kozzie is worth a small fortune, but we do no want to get into Colonwood's situation regarding salary cap and offloading other top rated players.

Is Byron Jnr a decent footballer?  Has he moved to Melbourne to play footy or to keep his cousin company?

And track watchers, how is young Burgoyne going?  Is he seriously close to the last spot on the list?

He’s a likely father son option for North Melbourne I believe.

If we rookie Trent, I hope it's more because we think he can play and add something in a role. Keeping Kozzie happy would be a bonus.

Pickett will struggle to get to Port as they have no first rounder after doing a horney franger.  They would have to give up a big name to get Kozzi in.  Has there been any other suitors mentioned??

I reckon he stays.

There is a term you have used there of which I am unfamiliar.   Presumably not a person of high libido from postcode 3199?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
