Hopefully we get 55k-60k to the game, would be a good start attendance wise.ย

That would rely on Dogs fans attending the game in their droves and as we saw in this years game, they didnโ€™t. They also only got 45,000 to a Richmond V Dogs MCG 2022 Saturday night game.

Always good to start the season off the G with a home game. However a round 23 MCG game would be great too. Last 4 season weโ€™ve ether been sent interstate or to Geelong to close the season.

Happy with this. Saturday night prime time beats Sunday at 1.30pm or 4.40pm. If the gate doesn't top 50k then that's on our own fair weather fan base, not the dogs.ย

Certainly it deserves 50,000 plus given both ours and Dogs excellent recruiting and where both Clubs are at.ย

Yes ย RD But Will more than 5/10,000 Dogs fans come to MCG though?ย

I reckon we will need 40/45,,000 Dees to top 50,000.ย

My boy Hunter to stick it to Bevo early doors

Saturday night at the G. We'll get a big crowd. This year we opened on Wednesday night which didn't help attendance wise. We'll get 60,000 in I hope

Classic AFL to release during the Socceroos game.

Wish it was on a Thursday so Tom Morris had a chance to break the news of Hunters debutย

Not a bad opening draw that.Woods cats, prime time.Reckon it will be a hard ground by then. Need to check previous games results and injuries.

Naturally, Collingwoodโ€™s game against Geelong โ€“ Geelongโ€™s home game โ€“ is at the MCG.

100 days to go. Canโ€™t wait!

I wouldโ€™ve rather played the Lions first up.ย

Any venue.ย

Also just realised that thereโ€™s no AFL game in Perf for round 1. Both teams in Victoria!

The local radio talkback stations are going to blow up over this. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I read somewhere that Optus Stadium was unavailable for some reason for Round 1.ย

Edit: And that reason is Ed Sheeran.ย

Dear Lord. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Welcome back to coaching Ross, 4:40 timeslot on Sunday.

So hang on I thought the premiership teams were going to play in r1 or did they work out putting it on a Wednesday night does not work.ย

Well hopefully Ugle-Hagen doesn't decide to have another game like he did last time.ย

Should be interesting with Hunter playing hopefully. Shacke I doubt will be there .ย

Bring on our dynamic ruck duo.ย

I was convinced we would be playing Geelong in Geelong in rd 1 but I suppose it will be the last game of the year just so we can whinge about it all season.

ย

So once again we have the contrived round of relative equals.

The AFL just cannot help themselves these days. Once it used to be a few blockbusters now it's whole rounds manipulated.

Saturday night assuming decent weather maybe 50k.

Might go to the Hawks v Bombers game if our "transferees" are selected

I don't get the angst over the Round 1 fixture.ย  Just what is it that posters are whinging about?

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didnโ€™t just beat Gold Coast โ€” they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharpย

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lionsโ€™ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Letโ€™s be honest, last weekโ€™s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper โ€” second versus seventeenth โ€” football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
