This is awesome news, but Jackson also did the same in his second year.ย  So let's hope we get another contract extension in a couple of years

But Jacko's was ONLY ONE YEAR THEN and I started to worry why? ย Reckon He was not fully on board like Riv and Kossie who both took 2 years!ย

He was never going to be a 5 year plus player. Wonder how many flags we can win more than Freo in the next 7:8 years??ย

Great news for JVR well earned and for our future.ย

Can't ย wait till Round 1 2023 ( hope it's vs Pies) with Brodie Lachie H JVR forward and Disco back plus Harry Petts on the forward line.ย

ย

I don't wish Luke any ill but his attitude in the last 12 months was appalling he must have known at the end of 2021 he was going back home so that could have given the MFC a chance to unload him to Freo and get Adam Cerra and some picks.

Young Jacob has commited to the club till 2025 and if his progress is good his next contract will be substantially higher and longer than the present one.

It gives the club a chance to groom the player rather than pitchfork him into the seniors before he is actually ready al la Jack Watts.

I hope you are right but he still hasn't played a senior game.

I'm in this camp, too, acknowledging there's a range of other camps. And I'm pleased he's stayed with us, regardless of where he plays, and when.

Seeing him close up at Casey, I'd agree aggression/attack/attitude is the point of difference between him and the obvious - and ultimatelyย unsuccessful - yardstick, Sam W. Beyond that, though, there's been no clear 'banging down the door' indicators; his being so strongly in the conversation has just as much been about the (perceived) deficiencies in the seniors forward line.

Successful leaps from Casey to the seniors have been the exception; Fritsch and (effectively) Gawn (and potentially Turner) are all I can bring to mind, and I wouldn't necessarily have said they were certainties at the time from what I saw, for varying reasons.

However,ย wouldn't it be great if (when?!) Jacobย is the next Bailey or Max!

not many players sign a three year extension without having played a debut game, i wouldn't have thought

good optics

Isn't it only a 2 year extension on an existing deal?

Or am I mssing something.?

But end of 25 is a great get and says the club is seen by JVR as a place he wants to be in.

Thanks.

I still say he reminds me of a young David Schwarz when before his knee reconstructions, hopefully he can become as good without the knee reconstructions.

Can take a mark, can kick goals, has a second effort and has a footy brain.

We live in hope for his success.

Correct, its a 2 year extension keeping him at the club for at least another 3.

Aggression attack attitude and..... He can take a bloody mark and kick straight.

He should go alright in the seniors this year.

From what I've seen, I reckon he's ready

Sounds like a great move to me, though no doubt some naysayers will point out that he hasnโ€™t played a game. ย

Of course they will, wouldn't be able to get thru life if they couldn't complain.

He's made it easy for them ...Goodwin has 3 more seasons to give him a game

Jeesus.. go and have a look at Schwarz's highlights reel before he was Ox...if he's that good then they should sack the whole FD right ..NOW for not playing him already.ย

It must be the silly season?

Of course you may be correct, which will be exciting...

Better than that Ruski ballet dancer guy?

Occam's razor.ย  ย The Match Committee didn't think he was ready for AFL level.

Jackson spent his first few years in covid hubs and lockdowns. Like most of us here in Victoria, he wouldn't have enjoyed his time here and it would have made it hard to settle and build a connection to the place. With the offer of big cash to return to his home state of WA after that experience, I'm shocked he stayed with us as long as he did!

JVR hopefully has a better experience living in a more normal version of Victoria. We have more chance of him staying longer term as he can properly settle and build a life here. We need him to become a key player in our forward line the next few years. Hoping we see lots of him in 2023!

I sort of agree, but Jackson also won a GF and spent another of time in WA.ย  I mean what else to you play footy for?

But I hope you are right, easy for me to say being a life long demons fan haha

I actually saw David Schwarz play in the Melbourne U19 along with David Neitz, they played at 15 so they were tied to the MFC for ever because there were changes coming with players no lomger being tied to the club via zones.

ย

Great signing. Could be the messiah or a very naughty boy, but definitely worth the risk/reward. Wouldnโ€™t swap him for anyone else I saw in the vfl.ย

Great news. If he puts in a big pre season he should get more than a few games next year.

With T Mac and Brown signed to end 2024ย  season good to give him the extra year.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
