Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Tmac

JvR

Schache

That’s my starting tall forwards (Ben Brown is done in my opinion)

You are assuming that T mac comes good after third foot operation

I think we are short of talls and should draft a couple if possible

Fair call, BUT if they did pull the trigger on Petty forward and JVR comes in too then all of a sudden we have a couple of absolute mongrels inside 50.

So true LN snd add Tmac if fit to that mix  and it's a scary proposition all defences face when you add the icing and all the mixof the hundreds and thousands that need minding.

A weakness becomes a strength.!!' Suddenly.

I think all of our draft trades provide us with an upgrade on the players we lost, we will be a better team next year for it. Schache and hunter could do very well with the new start and team to support them. Looking forward to next season, we are still within the premiership window all of our players, old and new need to give there best to help us to another premiership or two. hopefully our coach will also step up and not be afraid of making changes either to the side, or where players are on the field.

Very truthful Deec.  That window has been slightly further unlocked with this trade period.  Very nice pickings And a couple of green shoots to come!!

Schache is a low cost casino move.  We gave up nothing really (future 4th rd)  to bring him into the red and the blue.  His potential and talent is obvious.  It’s getting his heart and his head into the right place.  We saw glimpses of him in games v Dees and he can be a real asset as a 2nd key forward or even as a defender.   I think his natural game is forward of the Centre and his kicking for goal is generally excellent.  He kicked 45 goals in the VFL last year.  Whilst he could be the “new Weid/Mitch Brown replacement at Casey”, he could prove to be a very smart acquisition and be part of our success in ‘23. Fingers crossed that Goodie and co can turn him into the player that it was thought he could be.

Yeah, a lot of petty personal insults.  Disgraceful.

Many of the insults are from absolute nuffies, who just don't rate anyone outside the stars of the competition.

He will play senior footy for us next year and will do some good/great things for us.

Similar to those whacking Hunter because he had some issues when breaking up with a partner and went off the rails.  He will be regular 22 and probably in our top 5 for B&F.

Looking forward to seeing what both can offer us!

Stop relentlessly bashing strangers.  It honestly reflects more on you than anything or anyone else....i am talking about a LOT of you :P

I hear you Neverodd………. You can call the opposition whatever but once they pull on the Red and Blue they are ours, they may not be world beaters but they can be valuable to the overall team performance, you have to give people a chance to perform and our club and footy department the chance to iron the wrinkles out and restore confidence in their own ability, who knows what is possible??

Easier said than done it seems - had plenty of time and chances but yet to deliver on that front

Similar to Weid - early draft pick, skills seems ok , passion/heart/aggression seem to be missing

For both this trade period probably represents their last chance - it’s make or break time - big summer and hopefully comes out firing on all cylinders

My concern is that we have spent the same time trying to get Weid to the level required and failed - not saying it can't happen and both might surprise all their doubters - let's hope Josh can

Like Weid, he looks like he lacks real vigor and aggression or confidence - does have some ability clearly but sometimes that is just simply not enough

Both Weid and Josh may benefit from a change of scenery - FFS Josh (and Hunter) have been under the idiosyncratic Beveridge and just may not have been motivated to do it for him - hopefully they will all (all three) benefit and thrive (other than when we play the Druggies).

Our only hope is to extract blood from Jack Viney and hope the aggression and intensity of JV takes over Josh, like the Seinfeld episode below…..

We have often commented on how May and Lever provide in game on field leadership to the backline.

Who might provide similar on field leadership to the forward line? Tell players when and where to lead, create space with blocking, direct passes from upfield and possibly many more. Just stating that a player has to "compete more, show more heart" doesn't solve the problem if he does not know how. All the skills in the world cannot replace a footy brain.

It's time we anointed someone for this role. Maybe a more forward line oriented Maxie? In the GF I noticed a number of times that ANB was giving instructions to team mates. Is he the one? Who else can be considered?

Tmac seems the only real option.   Our forward line approach seems like everybody for themselves.  There really does not seem to be a solid system that is repeatable, nor creative.   We need lot of work in this area...and a lot more accountability from players in this area of the ground.

Nibbler has a good football brain and would be well suited to this role. He keeps on reminding the other players to keep their mind on the job and stop the premature celebrations and to get back to their positions for the next forward entry.

I was a little skeptical at first, but I think he can play as long as he can get a bit of guidance and I think it will be a contest between him and BBB, who is really a week-to-week proposition.

We came back too early last year and by the finals a lot of the players were stuffed, and the side was riddled with injuries.

I think the Jackson affair was a distraction as well and I'm expecting a much better year in 2023,

It's hard to be creative when the go to option is consistently bomb the ball to the left-hand pocket - ok maybe a slight over exaggeration but our system of efficiently moving the ball to our forwards certainly needs some work - we get far too many inside 50's that result in zero score conversion

Schache didn't kick 45 last year in the 2s. He only kicked 31 goals. The website I got this information from (and likely you too) had some matches from 2021 listed too and when added up equalled the 45 you had.

In any event see below for a comparison between Schache and Brown & Weid's season in the 2s.

So Schache is at least a proven goal kicker - neither Weid nor Brown matched this number.

Cross fingers.

Sam Weideman played 11 games and kicked 15 goals 17 for Casey. He spent a lot of time in the ruck late in the season.

Mitch Brown played 16 games and kicked 38 goals  24 behinds for Casey.

Josh Schache played 12 games and kicked 31 goals 10 behinds for Footscray Reserves

Weid only took 58 marks from his 11 games, Brown took 106 marks from his 16 games and Schache took 74 from his 12 games.

Well as an MFC supporter, I am a pessimistic optimist in that I expect the worst so any outcome is a happy one.

And I will enjoy life but having any expectation of a reformed Schache is a recipe for disappointment.

To enjoy life we must sometimes embrace reality…

@Demonland  thanks. Yes I read off the same data. He kicked 31.10 in his 12 games for Footscray VFL.  He still looks like a forward option and hopefully can reignite his career at the Dees.

I absolutely agree.

I did not watch any of Schache's matches at VFL level but going by those stats it appears that at least two of the 12 games were played in defence. In addition in his last 2 matches he kicked 2 bags of 7 goals. One of those games was against 13th placed GWS and the other was against 19th placed Coburg. It should also be noted that the Bulldogs finished 11th and only won 9 of 18 matches. I don't know the win/loss record of Schache's matches but Weid and Brown only played in 1 loss for the season.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
