roy11 4,058 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Obviously a lot of doom and gloom on the forum which I can understand as the season didn't hit all the 'Pass Marks'. Just trying to isolate that to those threads and have at least one thread of positives such as Another great year for Clarrie Continued improvement of Harry Petty Another AA year for May Another solid year of goals for Fritsch/Pickett Form/Development of certain players at Casey, yes a little disappointing we didn't see more debuts in 2022 but imagine a few will be putting their hands up during 2023 pre-season Off the field we had contract extensions for Oliver and Brayshaw, broke our membership record, renewed some sponsorships 21 1 4 Quote
Dee-licious 1,954 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Good thread. Oliver and Trac were outstanding this year. I thought that Brayshaw was a real highlight this year off half back and then through the centre. Viney stepping up at times as well. Jordan had a really good season and built on last year. Petty getting better and better and good to see him have a full season. 7 Quote
At the break of Gawn 4,510 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Oliver improved Fritsch perhaps slightly improved I thought. Pickett on par but second half was elite Petty improved. Brayshaw showed he’s a great intercept mark. That's about it for me for on field. 2 1 1 Quote

Bang Bang Bang 5,875 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 It counted for nothing in the end, but Kosi's winning goal against Carlton will stay in the memory for a long time. Scenes at the MCG were wild. 7 Quote

dimmy 1,308 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Bowey and Rivers developing. Petty ( a lot of potential) Oliver,Petracca, Brayshaw Gawn, Langdon , May & Viney providing the nucleus. Our success has enabled younger players to develop @ Casey so they will come into a strong system which "protects" them in their development .( ala Hawthorn in their run). ( Just watching Casey in the last couple of weeks and Turner,JVR, Bedford & Chandler all are developing players learning to develop without the intensity of AFL ) We still have lot to look forward to. 6 Quote
Bring-Back-Powell 15,529 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Our performances interstate. 7-0 is remarkable and who knows how we would’ve gone against Sydney if they took second off us. 11 Quote

Would swap that for a home fortress in a heart beat. Those MCG loses really cut deep this year. 6 1 Quote

The heart beats true 18,201 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 I really liked returning home late from games and reading how it sounded like we weren’t making any noise from those who watched on the TV. 1 1 2 8 Quote
fr_ap 2,566 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Good on the OP and good on you all playing the positives. I agree with most of what's been said. A positive for me is we are clearly still in the window - we were in every game and largely when things are equal (at the starts of games), we were the better team in all but maybe 1 or 2 matches. I'm not convinced those teams remaining are miles better - we are just banged up, in a weird headspace, copped a lot of 'higher than expected conversion' against us and we really were everyone's grand final. The planets need to align for a flag and they never quite did for us this year. That's ok. 13 2 1 Quote

layzie 34,528 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 This is good, we got the honest points out of the way now for the positive points! 1 1 Quote
DubDee 26,666 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 100% the main positive is having all of our stars locked in on long contracts. we should be up to our necks in it for the next 5 years. Hopefully we can snag a flag or two 9 Quote
CHF 2,825 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 While this season ended with a whimper rather than a bang I saw some positive signs for next season and ones immediately following. 1 Quote
DeeZee 7,496 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 Brayshaw was outstanding when played at half back Oliver - Where would we be without him? May - Best fullback in the league Casey into a Grand final and only losing one game for the entire season 3 Quote
Bombay Airconditioning 6,504 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 For a season where arguably we only regained our 2021 form once or twice we still finished 2nd at the conclusion of the home and away season. Considering our draw compared to that of Geelong I think that was a great effort. Of the 3 teams that trouble us being Geelong, Sydney and Collingwood none of them really smashed us. From memory the biggest margin was in the low 20’s? As it stands right now I honestly believe we still have a top 4 list, this before any potential trades in the upcoming period. I think we are a genuine chance over the next 3 years with this list. The fwd line needs an overhaul and we need to move the ball quicker but there’s no reason we’re not top 4 again next year. 6 Quote

Found a good patch of form in the back third of the regular season but didn’t have great finals. Fairly decent knee injury that really can hinder a young player without the base of preseasons. I’m still excited by what he has to offer, just a little question on what role they have for him. 3 1 Quote
Guest Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 1) Clarry is now close to best player in the league 2) Tied up our mids for the long term 3) Win one less game than last year and our percentage was similar 4) Brayshaw shone regardless of where he played 5) This is the key positive (shrouded in a negative): Our problems are eminently solvable. Once we lost to the Dogs, our issues were pretty clear and it was going to be hard to reverse the trend. Some home truths said to both playing and coaching staff, tinkering with the game plan, a fitness plan that emphasizes running games out plus some harder calls on who gets into the starting 22 and I’d say we can definitely bounce back. layzie 34,528 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 On the positive side those Lions were bloody brilliant. 3 cheers for Rameirez Quote
WERRIDEE 5,638 Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 I like this so much better than what a wasted year. Highlights: membership record Casey into the grand final. 4 All Australians Brayshaw's form off half back should have stayed there. Fritsch over 50 goals again. Pickett over 40 goals again. 4 1 Quote
