I knew after every goal they were gifted in the 50 we were done for. Petty's final free kick was the last nail in the coffin. I won't blame the umps but that had a Collingwood win written all over it in the last quarter. We were scared, and they tackled hard. We played rattled, that was very disappointing.

 

9 beers deep and I resisted the urge to smash my computer. At least I've got that going for me.

As usual over the last few years, we are fine when we have the game on our terms, but we struggle with opposition countermeasures. Are we prepared for contingencies? Do we have too many role players who work really hard, but lack natural ability? Then again, all would be fine if we could make more of out I50s. (Although I worry that we over-commit to defence at the expense of attack.)

Time to give some at Casey an opportunity in our fwd half, lacked pressure down there again last night.

Have some serious fwd half pressure and keeping the ball in and the ability to back it up weekly from the Freo & Lions game, rated 17th for pressure acts.

Not sure they will be able to fix this come finals time & may even drop out of top 4!

Agree with your comments expect for the “easy games” coming up. Not easy but winnable assuming we are up to the challenge. 

I recall watching Angus for a bit a few times - once in the 3rd, when tackled, I think he handballed over the boundary line and correctly had it given as a free... I watched as the ball was kicked to a contest ahead of him, as he sprinted to support, the Collingwood player tracked him with a hand on him all the way (it was great play) and immediately tackled Brayshaw, when he received the ball.. I was more aware of that way of operating from the Pies, after that incident, on other occasions thereafter.

It's good strategy, but feels as though it 'anti-football' as in choosing to not go for the ball.. But essentially I guess that was McCrae and co, strangling one of our strengths which is the post clearance/post contest possession.

Hence why (in some sense) clearances in of themselves are meaningless. Our midfield strength was curtailed, not at the coalface , but by the immediate possession after.

But those [censored] did kick a bit too accurately....

Probably need to win both now to make the top 4 unless results go our way

For what it’s worth, my take isn’t so much about the personnel on the field but that we lack the absolute dare of last year. We’re looking for that perfect play but lacking that natural instinct that took us to the top. All is not lost.

Went to bed shattered, woke up feeling even worse. Tore my heart out watching us lose to the Pies last night.😓

I almost thought that was the turning point. It was a poor decision by Gus to handball. He just needed to take the tackle, and it would have been a ball-up as he didn't have prior.

Like Hibberd and Viney didn't have prior but were pinged anyway?

Our inside 50 conversion rate was 4% above AFL average last night. As poor as it looked at times, we scored fine. We lost because their conversion was 16% higher than AFL average. We defended poorly all across the ground, especially defensive 50.

This was a defensive loss, not an offensive one. 

The coaches would be furious we got into another shootout instead of slowing the game down and controlling it. It’s a failure on their part that they weren’t able to get the players to do that. I was sitting near the bench, and last night is the most animated and angry I can remember seeing Goodwin.

Lynch Or Cameron wouldn't have made the difference, we continue to bomb it long & high & creating intercept  marks for their defence, need to lower their eyes as many free players ignored.

I remember a play where as usual Collingwood were bringing it down the wing & lever must have just gotten confused they kick it over his head straight to mihochek on his own who ran it into 50 to set up a goal. 

McCrae did his homework brilliantly on May and lever

Appreciate the thought out response. I am a sensitive soul and I was indeed upset. I was putting my opinion out there and wanted people to see my narrow minded view at the time. I apologise, wish I was more like you in the heat of the moment but I'm not and thank you for coming out with a well thought out post when you were called out for it and had no option but to save face, that is quite brave of you, sort of.

So were the tackles on Lipinski and Crisp in our goal square in the last and the McCreery one earlier and others all ignored.

Even the Pies Commentators called them.

We will say nothing as usual. Same as the Dogs game. 15 holding the ball frees to one.

Bravery is my middle name. If it makes you feel any better Lazie, my daughter called me psycho last night as she could hear my madness from another room.

It’s a horrible experience watching a live game against that lot. Somebody in this thread said it was like being in a zoo and they are spot on. Some of them even got into the Tridents area and started baiting people when they started to close the gap on the scoreboard. They are the Millwall of Australian Rules Football.
