Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood

Changes may be minimal. Brown possibly the only in.

I am really interested with how we take that brutal mindset we showed last week to a team that will take us on and cut through us a few times. They play the only way to beat us at our best but the flip side is that if you can’t execute well enough, often enough we will get so many entries into our forward line.

I just don’t think it will stand up for long enough to beat us.

Just makes you want to go... hulk punches GIF

It’s pretty funny. They are our bogey side and I’m always concerned when we play them but the confidence is strange. In the last six weeks Pies have beaten GWS narrowly (11), beaten GC when they should’ve lost (5 points), just beat North when they were losing the majority of the game (7 points), just beat Adelaide (5 points), beat Essendon after the siren (4points) and narrowly beat Port when they easily could’ve lost (6 points). That’s six teams outside they 8 they struggled to beat. Meanwhile we beat two top 4 contenders by 7+ goals each (Brisbane and Freo), Beat Adelaide and Port pretty comfortably, lost to Geelong in Geelong after leading by four goals, lost to Bulldogs narrowly after leading the whole game. On form I’d take ours over theirs, we’ve been in tough games against real contenders or pushing away lower teams, they are scraping to beat the worst teams in it. It saddens me to say it, the pies are a good team, but I’m hoping they’re in for a shock as their form hasn’t been up to it the last 6 and they’ve got away with a lot of ordinary performances against very poor opposition.

Is their any other options? as the “heart” appears broken, and the “head” concussed

Ouch!
I’d love to take the risk with JVR watching him all year in the VFL he looks like he could explode at AFL level. But it’s a risk. Ben Brown has the runs on the board and if fit was in better form in the Geelong and Port games than Weid has shown.
I liked Angus in the guts and think Harmes could play the Melksham role even better than he has the last two weeks but admittedly Melksham has been good, logically he stays in, Hunt, (who wasn’t bad, his speed adds another dimension, but did lose a few contests including stupidly tackling Walters in a marking contest) makes way for Angus back to HB and Harmes back to his usual role.

Bowey has been outstanding in the VFL and I’m a fan while Rivers had some good moments but also a few turnovers and shanked kicks. It won’t happen but Rivers for Bowey would warm my heart.

I think the logical changes will be the changes, the heart ones are risky and may not pay off but I’d kinda love to see it.

The last time we played them our defence buckled, our structure unravelled and the rolled us. Unless we get very unlucky with injuries it won't happen twice

Sorry overly harsh with a poor attempt at humour.

Brown for Weid =

agree would love to see JVR if they think he is ready.

Harmes, Bowey maybe unlucky because Melk, Rivers, Hunt all be tough to drop.

I wonder if B Brown comes back in for someone other than Weideman? We won a Premiership with two KPFs plus two ruckmen and it may be that the Match Committee wants to get back to that structure again. For that to happen, though, a smaller forward needs to miss out and that might mean Melksham is omitted after having probably played his best game in a couple of seasons.

I really really hope the Ginnivan incident with Gawn coming off the ground last time is one of those 'You don't forget' moments for the guys.

I like the kid and think he can play but I think the rest of Australia would like to see him get some just desserts on national television.

Totally agree with the first paragraph, I am sure they will remember.  I liked the way Gawney diverted his answer in a recent press conference about how he felt about Ginnivan’s mental health concerns to discuss the over the top attention that Jacko received in Perth last week.  He certainly remembers.

Therefore, In your second paragraph I’d change ‘like’ to ‘despise’ and immediately after ‘play’ insert ‘for free kicks’ .  Totally agree again with your ‘just deserts’ comment that follows.

All the attention and negativity that he has received has been brought on by his antics and actions. I know he is just a kid but the Pies hierarchy didn’t help the situation- they should have counselled him to pull his head in a bit.  Such is life.

It's a very interesting situation and without 2 fit and in-form big forwards, we may not find out what the coaches preferred forward balancee is.  I don't mind the current balance, but it certainly worked well with two talls last year.

For the love of god, do NOT lose to these clowns.

I want to bury them and make them realise what a truly mediocre side they actually are and how lucky they have been to get an easy draw and get away with so many close wins.

I also want to see Howe and Ginnivin cry. Ugly cry.

All fair enough points. I mean I don't mind him as a player but certainly not going to tell others what to think of him! 😀

The negativity has absolutely been brought on by himself, no getting around that.

Odds for Friday keep drifting for the pies on PointsBet:

Dees $1.37 vs Pies $3.10

Should have no problem finishing the game this time round, although we played crap last time we still lead in the last.

I think the pies will be in for a reality check. Bring that ruthlessness and stingy defence and they shouldn't worry us.

This Brody fellow always chooses us to play well against,   a bit like Mason Cox, always seems to play well against us.

I hope the pies have a truck load of young players training the house down and they go young.

It's time for Werridee to put together his team of average footballers who seem to play exceptional games against us. Or Demonstone could make it one of his brainteasers.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
