He performed when the game was there to be won and against the highest rated team we've played all year playing a high pressure game.

Some great attack on the pill, presented well, a number of score involvements including some up the field (work ethic).ย  Competed well at ground level and kicked two VN goals.

If we got that or similar most weeks from Plugga he's gonna be very hard to dislodge this season, injury aside.

TMacs lead, mark and goal in the second quarter was what a good leading forward does.

Certainty and authority.

Weideman doesn't have it.

Wasnโ€™t too bad. A very sloppy quarter in the third allowed them to come back. Still glad we came back and won the 4th.

Gawn a bit quiet. Clarry had a quiet game. Bradshaw was fantastic. Top notch game. May another standout. Really glad to see that we have finally beaten a top 4 team so critics can shut up a bit

Not sure 38 touches is a quiet game..

I guess people see what they see.

His smile when he kicked a goal was worth the price of admission...admittably as a 50 year MCC member that's only 10 bucks!ย  (smile)

Itโ€™s getting tiresomeย

Watching the replay - Bucks points out that we are playing elite football.

When we were 41 points up in the 1st, Saints pressure rating was at 200.

Every single one of our disposals was made under pressure effectively and we were still able to dominate.

That is unbelievable.

Was blown away by the first half. When petty jumped like Jordan to get a finger on membryโ€™s kick from 10m out, I knew we would win. We do not give an inch to the oppo.ย
ย

I thought we would be pushed. We are better than I thought. Havenโ€™t gone close to peaking yet either!

Can we have more interviews with TMac, please. Courteous, intelligent, articulate and actually answers the question without the mind-numbing references to 4 points and "the boys". I really enjoyed his comments about his journey to 200 games, and the ways the team still want to improve.ย

Laughed and loved this comment in The Age game review:ย  "The Demons then just played out time, always keeping the margin above 20 points after strangling their opposition like a python and putting the game to sleep".

Tell me about it.

When they got to within 22 with 8 minutes to go, Iโ€™d have being pooing a brick in years gone by.ย

This time my feeling was that even if they jag another to get within 16, itโ€™ll take a good 2 to 3 minutes for that to happen.

Teams just donโ€™t pile on goals against us in short bursts of time. The last team to do it to us was Geelong in round 23 last year, ย and itโ€™s not like it mattered much in the end they had.

The bulldogs piled on 8 goals in a row round one mainly in a burst at the start of the second quarter, thatโ€™s the most recent I can remember, 7 in a row in the Granny too since the Geelong game.ย
Weโ€™re playing brilliant football, I feel confident the whole way through. Still havenโ€™t been behind in a last quarter this year. Loving it!!

Iโ€™m not a big Bucks fan, but he nailed that comment! ย We witnessed ย a very,ย very good football team in action today โ€ฆโ€ฆ and they just happen to be ours! ย Iโ€™m bloody stoked!

While the crowds haven't been massive (today was the emptiest Trident's section I have seen this year), I am enjoying the carnival like atmosphere from supporters. There is very little tension and an air of bonhomie. Long may it last!

It's pretty hard not to start looking forward and salivating about that round 11 clash against Freo. But still need to knock off West Coast and North.

Someone else has said this on demonlandโ€ฆ but it would be criminal if this team doesnโ€™t win 2-3 flags minimum. Weโ€™re unreal!

Yeah but he stuffed up a few times. Held on too long and got caught which is happening a few times with him lately

Tommy Mac looking at home with the red pill, thought he was really good today.ย

Steven May giving max king a bath yet again, must be so frustrating as an oppo key forward when you walk onto the ground and see that mountain of man ready to go to work on you.ย

This doesnโ€™t get anywhere near enough recognition around here. In all seriousness bar 4-5 games this has been what weโ€™ve been doing for the last 35 games.

This will be an enduring image for me of today's victory. ONYA Tom MacDonald. Persistence pays off! ย

I thought Buckley's comments re the role of Spargo,Neale Bullen, Sparrow & Kozzie in that he said the way they play their roles enable our team to function so well. I think he rated the pressure our smaller forwards put on the oppostionas the best in the AFL.

Actually it is interesting to get this "coach" type analysis rather than the Media people like BT, Howie etc who only think Clarrie,Trac, Gawny and May are the only people who count.

Not sure about the last 35 games but it has been very obvious this year.

Yeah, there's been a few posts lamenting that we aren't kicking big scores or by big margins against the weaker teams with the % boost other contenders get.ย

The reality is if we keep ops to about 60 pts and we kick around 90pts we keep our % around 150 so no need to worry about big scores or big % games.ย  We are consistent week to week with a steady %.

Shutting down teams in the last quarter is part of that.ย  As Goodwin said post GCS game about our defensive 4th quarter:ย  we didn't need to score.

High scores is not what we are about; strangling the opposition and putting the game to sleep, are!!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasnโ€™t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals. ย

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

In advance of Season 10, the AFL leadership has engaged in candid discussions with all clubs regarding strategies to boost attendance and expand fan bases. Concerningly, average attendances in 2024 were 2,660 fans per match, with the womenโ€™s game incurring an annual loss of approximately $50 million.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
