Easy win coming up

Demons 11. 25

Hawks 13. 4

Not funny.  although you do have us winning by 9 points.

If we win with 4 GF stars out (they were all stars that game) and Goody, the media will still pay scant attention as it will just further emphasise the " daylight second" theory.

Whcih may just be right at the moment

At some point we need to say that Weed played a good game, or at least better than TMac. I havent seen it and hope I will accept the shock of the new when I see it and then I will  believe it. I am biased. i honestly believe Weed will let us down big time in a game soon, either by not committing or by missing a crucial shot. Tmac thrives under pressure still, and has won us games in the past off his boot. I realise his halcyon days are behind but is Weed better yet, this year, when we need to be putting up our best team to win this years flag? I dont think so.

Who is we?  I thought he played a good game; and so did Goody 'we kicked so many points then Weid under pressure got the goal....'

Come on, is that all?

Surely we can achieve more than 25 behinds in a game if we are playing well?

Incidentally, on a serious note, it would be interesting to understand the breakdown of behinds between poor kicking and rushed for us Vs our opponents on average.  I suspect we have an above average number of rushed behinds, because of the time in forward 50 we acheive and the pressure we put the opposition backs under.

One reason for our pts vs Richmond is because they forced us to play wide to the flanks so we weren't able to position the ball where we prefer i50.

I suspect this tactic will be used often against us as it works, to some extent.  We still get lots of i50 but accuracy suffers.  The tactic works until we wear teams down and play 'our way'.

Kozzi and Jackson are not replaceable as such imo. We lose pressure up fwd and we lose everything LJ brings uniquely.

no offence to Sparrow or a Petty but the lose is felt less imo

still should beat the squalks though

You completely undersell Petty. He is as important and arguably in far better form than both Kosi and Jackson.

He would be a perfect match up for Gunston who has a fun time destroying us.

Petty is so firmly embedded in our starting 18, and we are a far better team with him playing, which is why he was rushed back from injury and pushed Tomlinson out of the team.

I will go out on a limb and say that he will take over from May when May retires. He is that good!

I’ve not watch much of the Hawks this season, Grainger-Barras was dropped which i found surprising as he has played some good footy and I thought was one they’d ride out a few ups and downs with.

Grainger-Barrass was marked as “managed” in their outs while others were marked omitted, I’d assume that means they think he is best 22 but he is a bit sore or lacking fitness.
As you say, Hawks are up and down, their up has been good, I hope we get their down, last quarter against Sydney ideally, for a whole game, I’d love to pay them back for all those thrashings!

Hawks are actually missing a lot of good players as well so surely shouldn't pose much of a threat.

They have started their last 2 games putting 5-6 goals on early so we will have to watch for that.

Interestingly on SEN Mitchell was asked about tagging and he said they normally look for the players with the most score involvements.  For us it's Petracca but he also mentioned ANB who isn't far behind.

Hnmm Free Weed? Where do ya get it??

Possibly behind the picket fence in North........!!!

Perhaps should have described as Weid not being minded all day with the same opponent. His ruck skills are reasonable but it's his marking around the ground at times that he impresses in this role.

A little harsh perhaps but I don't disagree entirely. I think he has good/reasonable games but struggles to string them together. Still goes missing for long periods in games. Don't think it's decided yet who's better value between him and Tmac.

Would love to put the game to bed by half time.

Would be nice to click for a first half of footy. Our midfield haven't really fired in first halves. It's always been a response after half time.

Funnily, I feel the same way about our second halves, but we're also 6-0 in first quarters this year (the only team to have won all six first quarters, too).

Grainger-Barras is technically "managed", although he's an emergency. I think maybe they're giving him a break.

Was not rating the players, just commenting on their uniqueness and replaceability. Petty is an excellent player but Kozzi and LJ provide elements of our game plan that are harder to replace imo

Bedford well and truly deserving of a game. Will need to play incredibly well to hold his spot though as kozzie will come straight back in.

The daylight second theory is bs. Brisbane are a good team and so are freo. No doubt.

They are, but neither are as good as our best, it reminds me of the Hawks dominant era, every team knew their best was THE best and if they were on, it wasn't going to matter what was tried.

I think we're a bit the same, but i also think the reason i don't mind the daylight second theory is that we're playing at i'd say 60-70% of our capacity and still undefeated.

Personally i think Geelong are the second best team, that forward combination is pretty scary, and something most teams will struggle to contain.

It's still a strong team, and you don't really notice who's missing. Probably have a greater effect at Casey,

I'm glad we got Dunstan in the off-season.

Why will it have a greater effect at Casey? Casey are playing on Sunday so any non-playing emergencies/medisubs from Melbourne's Saturday game will be available. Bedford didn't play for Casey last week as he was the Melbourne medisub and Tomlinson only played half a game as he was being held over as a Melbourne emergency. The only player Casey will be missing they had last week is TMac, and they will have Hibberd so a marginal loss at worst.

One need only look to the 2008 Cats and 2018 Tigers to see that great teams don’t win premierships for just turning up.

Because if Petty, Pickett, Sparrow and Jackson were playing for Melbourne, there'd be four other players who would play for Casey, and they're not?

Hmmmmm......just on that, how many goals is the minimum for him to retain his spot? ....5? 😇

Petty is a huge loss. So is Jackson and the grunt of Sparrow

At least lever and May are there.

Will be interesting to see Tmac, weid and bbb all playing together.

I suspect Sam will help out with the ruck and he may get more confidence.

Glad Vineys back.

What a great run of lack of injuries we had last year.

We should still win by thirty three if we kick somwhat straightish.

Last time we played the Hawks, we weren't sure how good we were, and if everything was going to go up in a puff of smoke at some stage.

Also we were up against Clarkson, who, with not much at his disposal, still managed to craft a gameplan specifically for us. It nearly got us too. I recall late in the 4th, in front of the Hawks' goal, a crucial, and buII****, holding the ball decision went against us. Clarkson in the coaches box pounded the desk in glee as he knew how buII**** it was, but didn't care as long as his plan brought home the bacon.

Mitchell might be just as crafty as Clarkson, but he doesn't have the experience, or the troops, to successfully carry out his plan.

Also, this time we know how good we are.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
