Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The 'dangerman' will be Gunston.   Didn't play last year.  He is a smart player in fine form.  They will look for him when on a break.  Shiel plays well against us and can score heavily.

I'm guessing they will look to move the ball very quickly denying us the ability to roll back and set up our defence.

Hoping that if we have a good lead in the last quarter that we keep going and not shut the game down.

Win by 3-5 goals.

And Breust can be a pain in the gluteus maximus as well

Snap'!  I had just added him to my post.

Both Gunston and Breust have averaged 2 goals per game so far and barely any points.  Give them half a chance and they will hurt us on the scoreboard.

I doubt they will be kicking it high and prefer the fast break style of attack to make the most of those two forwards.

I’d be a bit nervous about the next emergencies in line - not sure our depth is all it’s cracked up to be

But we're missing 4 due to the virus, Hibberd is just returning from injury, Salem is still injured and the rest are kids so we've still got a pretty solid squad of 32 or so, our depth is significantly better than anyone else in the comp.

I actually think playing second ruck is good for Weid.  It forces him into the action in a physical way and gives him the opertuity to get his hands on the ball a bit and be involved with the play, from which he can build some touch and confidence within games.

Additionally, if he can actually make a half decient fist of the ruck duties part, what versatility that could give us during games, even when both Max and Dogga are available.  Teams seem to have enough trouble dealing with the change in style between Max and Dogga, what if we could confidently throw Weid into the ruck to mix things up even more?

Rod I have been saying that about Weid fur 12 mths he needs to be set free .

That way  he goes for the ball without an opponent and generally takes good marks around the ground.

As you say then he fired up more down  forward.

What we can say is that Viney Lever and T Mac are all good footballers. You generally don't go backwards with ability,

Toby is still finding his way but I think his confidence will be up and feel very positive  about him. Hope he goes well.

He still has about 19 premiership players around him to assist also.

Just to be clear, the emergencies are our second row of depth, not our first.

Our first row of depth includes TMac, Dunstan, Smith, Bedford and (arguably) Hunt. They're all playing.

When Salem, Petty, Jackson, Pickett and Sparrow return, that first row of depth returns to the emergencies and you'll be less concerned.

Having four players forced out due to COVID and having the ability to bring in three premiership players in Lever, Viney and TMac, into a side that is 6-0, is a remarkable position to be in.

Easy win coming up

Demons 11. 25

Hawks 13. 4

Come on, is that all?

Surely we can achieve more than 25 behinds in a game if we are playing well?

Incidentally, on a serious note, it would be interesting to understand the breakdown of behinds between poor kicking and rushed for us Vs our opponents on average.  I suspect we have an above average number of rushed behinds, because of the time in forward 50 we acheive and the pressure we put the opposition backs under.

Better lock him away in a COVID bubble at all times outside of training or playing.  Don't want him to ever miss a game.

And if does get Covid we just plonk him out on the field in one of zorbing bubbles.

I'm wary of them.  We played horribly against them last year and Breust and Gunston have killed us for well over a decade.  And if it rains all day tomorrow who knows what could happen.

So we'll be going in without Salem, Petty, Jackson, Pickett and Sparrow (and Hibberd, depending on your views on him).

Hawthorn, meanwhile, will be missing Jiath, Lewis, Grainger-Barras and two ruckmen (McEvoy and Reeves).

Jiath is massive for them, I was really interested to see how he would go against us, shame.
I’ve not watch much of the Hawks this season, Grainger-Barras was dropped which i found surprising as he has played some good footy and I thought was one they’d ride out a few ups and downs with.

Just saw some footage of the Captains Run on Instagram. It was fairly brief, but noticed all the big guns were there. Trac, Clarry, Max, Viney, Fritsch, Brown, May, Langdon, Brayshaw. Bedford and Spargo were there.

The only player I didn't notice was Lever, but that doesn't mean he was absent.

Current Melbourne forecast is for rain overnight, clearing by noon. Only a 5-10% chance of a shower after 1pm. Temperature 17-18C when the game starts.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
