Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

The Mystery of Majak Daw

Melbourne has been very good with its communications lately but there seems to be a bit of a blind spot in some areas of reporting.

When Mitch Brown was forced off the ground after a behind the play incident in the Casey v Essendon game, we heard very little about what really happened, whether the injury (did it turn out to be a concussion?) was investigated or a report was lodged.

On the weekend, Majak Daw, selected as usual in the ruck for the Casey Demons, took his place on the forward line, kicked two goals early (both from free kicks) and wasn’t to be seen again after quarter time. Someone said that he had a fitness test but his name didn’t come up in the injury report so we are all none the wiser as to his disappearance so early in the game.

So what’s the mystery?

Is the story somehow protected by the Official Secrets Act or is there nothing in it?

Postscript: On a recent holiday, I found Majak’s biography on a shelf in a bookstore and I bought it. I’m just about to start reading it so hopefully I’ll have more insight into Majak soon enough.

Having watched the game he didn't look right from the first bounce - seemed to be struggling just jogging and moving around

I would guess he was feeling unwell rather than any sort of physical injury - if so very surprising he actually took the field

If he was in fact "sick" and not injured that may explain why there has been no injury report

This wasn't at the Anglesea newsagent by any chance? I saw this on the shelf there and was half tempted to check it out :)

With so many hangers on at football clubs these days it baffles me that one of them can't give a decent review of Casey games and how our players fared. If we didn't have Demonland, there would be almost no feedback whatsoever.

Spoiler alert - the book ends with his mysterious disappearance at quarter time down Casey way last weekend.

Can't wait to the sequel.

Amazing. I had a look at the back page and it goes:-

I felt rather light-headed early in the game at Casey Fields against Coburg so I sauntered off to the forward line where I managed to attract the football and some good fortune in the stiffening breeze. The umpire paid me two free kicks in a row. I kicked them through the goals both times and as I ran near the crowd the second time, I noticed one of the young fans who I knew by the name of Dorothy, clapping her hands excitedly until a moment later, the wind strengthened and a heavy shadow fell on our part of the ground. I realised we were in the eye of a tornado which lifted us up and dropped us on an unknown land.

I must have passed out because when I came to, I was with Dorothy, a man dressed as a Lion who I figured was the mascot for the Coburg Lions, a ragged looking bum dressed like a Scarecrow and a strange character who called himself “Tin Man”. One of the local little league teams, “The Munchkins”, were also hanging around looking strange. One of them said, “We’re in the land of Oz”, and I replied, “Yeah, I know that but how do we get back to Casey Fields? The team needs me!”

And that’s it … the rest is blank pages.

No, it was on the Gold Coast - you would have thought there would be a book on every Melbourne player but I Majak's was the only one.

We might possibly get the answer at team selection for the Casey Demons for their clash this week vs Richmond VFL - incidentally, that won’t be an easy game for the current league leaders.

Problem might be that we might not know the team selection until the day of the game - Sunday!

Mystery solved. The Kansas Tornado just delivered Majak back to Casey Fields and he’s going to line up in the ruck against the Tigers VFL side on Sunday afternoon.

It was all a bad dream.......

Back in the ol' dayz Poita, we had 3AW, The Truth, The Sun, The Age, The Herald and Inside Football. Now we have literally hundreds of places we can get out footy news. My pace of choice? Demonland. And when I've finished here after two or three hours, I ring the boot-studder for the truth.

Don’t forget Punch which is a bit Deakinesque

I’m reading Brett’s The Enigmatic Mr Deakin at present. It’s fabulous.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
