Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

could we expect 45K against the hawks?

If Hawks put on a good showing today I think yes. Depends on weather but I suggest it could be a strongly attended Sunday fixture.
MCC will be packed.

Will be so interesting to see how the game against the Saints goes. It’s Mother’s Day and Sunday 1:10 slot which is never good. But it could be 1 vs 2. We might possibly get more than 30k to that one!

[censored]! The Hawks were belted by Sydney. Don't expect more than 10k of them to attend this Saturday.

We'll need as many Dees members as possible

70,000 on Sunday night was a marvellous turnout but surely about 10,000 short of what should have been there.

The more I think about it, the more I believe people's technology habits are affecting crowds. The arrival of TV streaming services have people more readily paying for what they used to get for free. Whereas Foxtel struggled for customers, the uptake of Netflix, Stan and others has nomalised subscription services. As such, I wonder whether Kayo has large numbers of subscribers, and, if so, whether many people who used to attend games now prefer to stay home and watch it via that service?

I quoted this ticketing issues earlier as a major factor as to why crowds are down. Until the MCC and MCG return to a system of just rocking up and getting a seat together with mates, we will continue to see lower than expected attendances.

With the restriction repeals announced today, which come into effect on Friday night, I hope the MCC update their ticketing policies. In an email received today from the MCC, it looks like things are beginning to be relaxed a little. I hope it continues:

General ticketing

A reminder to members that to obtain access to the Reserve during the 2022 AFL Premiership Season, matches have been categorised in one of the following options based on the predicted attendance.

1.    Fully Ticketed Matches
Only a small number of AFL Premiership Season matches have been classified under this category for this year. This category is assigned to marquee matches where it is predicted demand to attend will be high amongst our members. For example, the ANZAC Eve and ANZAC Daymatches are Category 1, fully ticketed matches, and are available to Full and Restricted members only. Full and Restricted members and their guests must have secured tickets in advance to attend those matches in the Reserve.

2.    Members’ Reserve on Demand or Walk-Up Access Matches
For designated Members’ Reserve on Demand matches, the Reserve is available to members to secure a seat and also purchase visitor tickets on a match-by-match basis. Seats are released and sold as required and any seats not sold will be available to those members who decide to walk-up on the day of the match. This walk-up availability will be communicated on the MCC website on the Friday afternoon prior to the round.

I think I was referring to the MCC, not AFL members. There has been a requirement for all our games to reserve seats, particularly if attending with a guest.

No there hasn't. You could have walked up to the GWS and sat anywhere with a guest. The MCC hasn't changed the systems its been the same since round 1. There is no walk ups for category 1 games which Melb has had 3 in the first 6 weeks. A by product of being a bigger team. The system isnt really much different to pre covid. The major change is no walk ups to blockbuster games, which isnt really that bigger deal. saves you getting there early and reserving a decent seat.

Night games I stay home LDC. With being the champs that means the number of games I attend will be less. So I am one of the ones you talk about.

Saturday twilight time slot, rain predicted, Hawthorn's fickle supporter base = 35K tops, probably closer to 30K.

St Kilda on Mothers Day will be 30K at best.

Note that St Kilda and Hawthorn only drew 30,926 in round 4 for a Hawthorn home game. St Kilda's crowds have been abysmal this year, even with home games against Collingwood and Richmond.

I think you will struggle to get 30K to both. 27 this weekend and 23 on mothers day is my call. Once it was only 2 games a weekend televised now you have FTA, Foxtel and Kayo. many more options. People can still do the mothers day thing then watch the game at home. Especially if the forecast is poor. That is without the distractions of getting a seat on line.

Are you in Luzon or the Visayas?

My Mrs is from Biri in the North-Eastern Visayas. Not a bad place.

Hope the team gets up for you when you make the trip back. Long way to come for a loss.

Also remember that it is a replacement home game for Hawthorn members.

Can expect 45K (maybe 50) against Hawthorn and hopefully 40K against the Saints on mothers day.

I suspect a lot of Melbourne supporters who are accustomed to Sunday games will go.

We got 53K against the Saints in 2017 on the 1:10 slot when it was 9th vs 10th and a battle to make the 8.

Going to the footy always seems to be so much more fun when your team wins and  we outnumber and make more noise than the opposition.
So for all those of you who can, please rock up to our games so I can have some more fun.

And keep in mind, our purple patch will not last forever.  May only go for another four or five years.  😉 Enjoy it while you can.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
