GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Port Adelaide

I must be a pessimist because I’ve actually backed Port to win at the $3.50 mark. I don’t think we are playing good footy. I think Essendon are a legit VFL level side, and we struggled with them for much of last week. I also think we carried many passengers from the week before into that game. Also, it’s in Adelaide. The umpiring will be next level. How much longer can we keep wrestling against momentum in matches where umpiring dictates the flow of the game. At some point a team gets tired. We are constantly umpired out of games we somehow wrestle back momentum and win. Due for a loss.

It’s hard to be up every week and as good as we are we still have 4 key players out, 5 if you count Hibberd. Had we kicked straight early the game would of been put to bed at qtr time.  We’re no longer the team we used to be, we’ve just done enough the last two weeks but we will/should rise to the occasion tonight and put Port away.

I think that if we can start off well and open up a good margin, the game will be over at quarter time. Port will be flat and so will their fans. It's very important to kill the contest early.

Looking at the PA board on bigfooty, it looks like a lot aren't going to turn up. It'll be interesting to see the size of the crowd.

I really enjoy the visits to Adelaide, it’s a lovely little town.

Love the hills and valley.

City town with country feel.

But its probably changed since I was there ten years ago.

I don't mind night games on Fridays and Saturdays. But I absolutely detest night games on Thursday or Wednesday (except Anzac eve).

I think the AFL is damaging football with Thursday night games because (1) there's too much football on TV overall and (2) it weakens the appeal of Friday night football. Surely someone will explain to the AFL Commission the concept of scarcity and how it adds value to any product.

Agree with this sentiment

What distinguishes Aussie rules to other codes of football is how family friendly and female friendly it is, and I think the two are linked.

Wednesday and Thursday night games undermine this unique ethos, which I think anyone who’s been to a soccer game in somewhere like London will appreciate

Just completed a day's hard labour at The Manor.

So a quick post while the maid finalises my Zoutzoukakia. ( I instructed her to withhold the cumin as it ruins a decent red)

Re footy.

Goal kickers will be the key tonight.

Can Weid back it up?

Will Tmac find some form under pressure?

A bag from Fitta would be handy.

However, it may be the big boys who deliver the coup de grace . Port don't match us in the ruck department, so don't be surprised if Jacko and Max do some damage sneaking forward.

Dees easily if we kick straight.

A 30 point win or thereabouts. Grinding them down and kicking away late in the third and maintaining the lead.

Weid won't hold a mark ( well maybe one) despite leading well, and probably won't kick a goal .

Be great to  get the win and improve our form a bit we play 8 out the next 10 at the G, Goody spoke last season (before covid changed finals plans)about how we want to really wanted the G where we play our best footy.
The run of games after tonight’s will be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Which unfortunately means we play 5 games away from the G from rounds 16 to 20 (AO, Geelong, Alice, Marvel, Optus).

The total opposite of Richmond's charmed draw when they were winning flags.

Looking forward to a nice single malt while I watch the game tonight.

Still think we are a game up or so given our injuries from what I thought at the start of the season, so a bit nervous as always.

Bowey to keep progressing on his way to a world record hopefully.

The AFL don’t care about supporters, just TV money. Thrursday night is better for revenues than Saturday or Sunday afternoon, so sadly, get used to it

It's all about TV ratings LDC, nothing else matters.

So, the game starts at 11.40am my time so come the second half I might just have a beer or three while watching. Very civilized.

And after the game a bite of lunch and another couple.

Think I will stick to the Duvels rather than the Trappist beers I have on hand...... The Trappist West Vleteren is 10.4%..... a couple of those and I go to sleep.

Expecting them to come out hard in the first quarter and for us to come home with a wet sail....

Dees by 6/7 goals

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
