Should Daisy be able to lead her own life and consider options from other employers in an industry that she respected in, and some of us supporters could shout "Traitor" at her or should she remain 'loyal' no matter what and be loved universally. OR Should Daisy be able to lead her own life and consider options from other employers in an industry that she respected in, and be universally loved?

    That would be a great opportunity for Daisy.

    I hope she takes up the offer for the benefit of her own coaching development.

    Generally how it works. Go elsewhere and learn under different systems, then come home.

    Daisy's loyalty to the red and blue will never be in doubt.  This is the lady that told Gil that she plays for the Dees or won't play AFLW!!

    She isn't lost to us yet.  The article says we want keep her when she hangs up the boots: 

    Cats CEO Steve Hocking told 3AW that many clubs would be interested in securing the services of Pearce when she ends her playing career with the Demons.

    “Daisy is committed to Melbourne Football Club. They are clearly going to have a big say in the finals. They would love to win a premiership and our understanding at this point in time, and through talking to her manager, they’re [Melbourne are} committed to Daisy continuing there and she has not made a decision as to what her future looks like,” Hocking said.

    I recall a few years back she joined training with Goodwin and he was very welcoming.  Lots of reasons to join the Dee's men's coaching team.

    The article just says 2022. It’s not specific about when. Have to assume it’s late 2022 once this AFL season is over?

    I’m not sure she should take an assistant coaching job whilst commentating Friday night footy. She’s already compromised by her Melbourne playing career, immediately adding in a coaching job only makes that worse.

    I also have my doubts about joining a coaching line up in late March/early April. When the players and coaches have busted their backsides for close to 6 months it’s tricky to join in the middle of that.

    Otherwise I’ve long thought the best pathway for female coaches is to be mens team assistants to learn from the full time professionals. Then go to women’s head coach if they desire. And eventually mens head coach - one day it will happen.

    If it’s coaching not media Daisy wants then good luck to her. Geelong are a reasonable choice. They’ve landed Eddie Betts and might land Daisy. That’s a coup.

    I think she could pick a better environment than Geelong...

    Daisy has been a Dee since before the inception of the AFLW.  I have no problems at all with her broadening her horizons and experience at another club, should she choose to do so.  Should that occur, I  reckon that there’s a strong possibility that she’d return to the fold one day, either as senior AFLW coach, or with a very significant role at Casey Demons, or our AFL team.

    Interstates almost certainly a non starter. And let’s sideline Melbourne for the point of discussion.

    Hawks: rookie coach, no
    Carl: as above but worse 
    Saints: I like Ratten but is he even secure? 
    North: I very much like Noble but also no
    Pies: pretty much the same as North

    Bombers; maybe, Rutten and Mahoney are a good pair, but they’re also new to AFLW and a one club alignment. Every second online troll is a bombers fan 
    Dogs: maybe, but Bevo’s not everyone’s cup of tea
    Rich: maybe, love Peggy, Balme and Gale but Hardwick seems volatile 

    Chris Scott is a premiership coach with an incredible winning percentage. And he speaks about the game as well as anyone. Even when he’s making excuses they are thoughtful! 

    And when you hear Daisy commentate she absolutely idolises Joel Selwood.

    I'm mildly stunned that anyone on this site would ask that question.

    I'd be very interested to see how Daisy would go as a coach. I honestly think she has a great brain for it and would be a success.

    Her husband would need to make sacrifices if she progressed up the tree to senior coaching level. Lets hope he does just that if she ever makes the grade.

    The article says that Daisy took some time to consider a position at Essendon. Presumably they mean the 600 milliseconds it took for the job offer to enter her auditory cortex before travelling to her motor cortex for her to say no.

    If anyone could do it, Daisy could.  She is articulate, intelligent and a proven leader.  She should be the lead commentator for any network, or could enter coaching.  She is a great operator, and will do well wherever she goes.

    I have wondered what she wants to do; coaching vs media. I guess we will find out. 

    I would wish her well off to another team but I don’t think she should go out of her comfort zone (MFC) if she wants to keep playing and/or stay in the media. She would get away with a bit role easier at the Dees.

    Geelong. Ah I can’t say it’s a good idea to go there. They are about to fall off a performance cliff, and they have just replaced all assistant coaches. 

    I don’t think that is an environment to get into coaching unless she commits to only that.

    Yes! How dare she consider other options in a timeframe that suits her and her family and have significant ramifications for their future! Won't she think about the supporters feelings! (that think her sole existence at this point in time is to win matches of football that involve people that they have never met wearing colours that they symbolically love)!

    What has mother and good fun got to do with it ffs? Pearce is is professional, respected and a peer, that’s it.

      A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

      Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

      Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag.     • REPORT: Richmond

      The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

      The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace.They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
