Reporting to Mark Williams? Sourced by him too?

What do we think?

Great get for the footy club.

Filling in for Shannon Byrnes who I'm actually surprised that there was no mention of his departure by the footy club at all? no acknowledgment or anything? unless I have missed it.

I know there is no mention of this, but would be handy if Conca was playing a few games for Casey same way as i think Byrnes did in his first year as his welfare officer role?

I am very happy with this Reece Conca appointment fresh out of the school of hard knocks. He knows the standards that are required for success and played 150 games despite working through a lot of serious injuries. He worked with Mark Chocko Williams at the Tiges and is undertaking Undergraduate Degree in Counseling, so should be a great replacement for Shannon Byrnes.
Dazzle I did read somewhere that Byrnes was leaving the Club to return to Geelong in similar role which I thought at the time was disappointing. There were a number of changes announced just after the Granny so didn’t take to much notice.😀❤️💙

Looks to be a good appointment.

I forgot the Williams connection with him at the Tiges.

Byrnes was also match day runner, always seemed to have a good vibe about him.

...would think Conca might also take those duties.

Conca training with the WA lads makes a lot more sense all of a sudden. He was doing hill sprints with them the other day.

Good character guy who has the ability to provide some on field education at training and possibly at Casey, then seems to be doing the right stuff to do his off field role.

Byrnes might’ve been a victim of the footy department cap squeeze and Conca seems a sensible replacement.

I met and had coffee with Reece about 5 years when he was a regular for The Tiges and mostly spoke about life after footy.

He actually was hoping to use his profile to help disadvantaged children. He may still do this later in life but I’m rapt he’s joining us. He was a humble, down to earth character and I’m not surprised Choco endorsed him having spent time with him at the Tiges. Welcome Reece!

Looks like a good appointment, this is part of the David Neitz Academy working with Mark Williams?

I think you missed it.

Byrnes will be an assistant coach at Geelong to my understanding.

..and didn't he like being 'on the spot' with Tom Sparrow after his goal, rjay!

Indeed it does, DS! Good spotting👍

Conca cheaper than Byrnes, then? If so, an even better get!😉

If Williams reckons he's a goer.
I'm happy.

I thought I heard his name mentioned on a vid someone posted on here last week of the WA boys training (hard!)

Have always liked him. So, awesome get!

  • Demonland changed the title to Reece Conca Appointed Player Development Manager

Just an aside about Shannon Byrnes. This is a quote from him on his LinkedIn page:

"While the Club did have an extension for me on offer, the timing for me and my little family to move back to the regional area and coast was right.

I have absolutely loved my time in the Red & Blue, but also am very excited for the opportunity to be going back to where it all started for me and reconnect with old friends, as well as introduce myself to the new faces at Geelong FC".

Bit out of left field but It's good to just trust the club now.

you need staff at all levels of development, so a junior role will be useful - to be coming straight out of the game and not on huge wages

Scott has poached him after we gave the Cats a 3-0 spanking this season. We are the only club I might add, that has this record in recent times. Scott knows if you want to beat the best, you have to know how they operate and where their weaknesses, if any, are.

The intel will be valuable i'm sure but the biggest problem Scott has is his list are well past it. It's Jason Taylor they need to commence a rebuild.

The biggest problem will be the lack of intellectual capacity down at Sardinia Park to get to grips with a phenomena known as reality.

Congrats to Reece, apparantly the announcement had been leaked, was originally just a pipe dream, and almost went down the drain.

There was no mention of Roos, Jackson or any others in the last few years when they left either. I went to the AGM immediately after Jackson left. He was in the audience and received no mention which I thought was poor. The guy only saved us from extinction.

I remember that. Josh Mahoney is another who got nothing either.

Seems like only the players get special treatment.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
