Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Best Player to wear #20 since 1964.

Having a Jacob on the list got me researching.  Came across Graeme Jacobs, when as a kid I liked to pronounce it Jak Obs. I remember in 64 listening to the radio, 2 big guns up forward, Jacobs and Bourke. Jacobs wore # 20.  So here is a list of all the players since 64 who have worn that number.

Graeme Jacobs

Paul Rowlands

Laurie Queay

Shane McSperrin

Paul Hurst - premiership with Carlton

Brian Cook - yes it is him

Graeme Gaunt

Russell Richards - Rhino

Mathew Febey

Troy Broadbridge - great matchup for Hird. RIP

Colin Garland

Corey Maynard

Adam Tomlinson

It is a very even contest but who is the best since 64.  I will go Febey/Garland/Tomlinson

Thoughts?

Equal first.  Garland and Febey

Yes Garland was an underrated player. He didn't have many superstar attributes but his commitment was excellent and he was actually fairly versatile. I remember in Neeld's first year he was a major influence on our upset win over Essendon with his two goals in the last quarter. Pity he played for us when we were at our lowest point.

Our version of North's Gary "Crazy Horse" Cowton. Both quick, talented & powerful. Both made you wonder what the hell is gonna happen when they got the football in hand

Just for Richards he never got the ball in hand often enough.
Was at Princess Park the day he ran over Dipper earning the "Rhino" nickname.
Same game Matthews KO'd Steven Smith from behind.

The backend of his career he sought of lost momentum, but he was very unlucky to not win a best and fairest (more votes per game than Jonesy in one of his years but played one less game) and went toe to toe with Buddy Franklin in his prime and held his own.

Graeme Gaunt was a terrific stalwart of the Club at the worst of all possible times

Col Garland fits that bill too I reckon Crackers. Played more games at a lower winning percentage too: 141 games at 24.82.

I swear that was at the MCG Fork 'em.

I'm with Fork 'em on this one as I was also at Princes Park that day standing at the Lygon Street end and clearly saw Matthews punch Smith in the head.

The incident at the MCG could have been the day he did a similar dirty act on Peter Giles.

Mathew Febey and Colin Garland were good players but underrated Mathew played in more successful teams and was a bit player whereas Garland as pointed out played in weaker teams and was one of our leading lights. I really liked them both but for me Colin edged Mathew out.!!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
