Media perception has always dictated trade value more than actual output, Neville!

I'm not sure where you'd find the stat, but from a visual perspective he seems to lose a lot more aerial contests than previously.  That's my main criticism.  I love what he brings when he's on, but as a big man he needs to be able to win or neutralize marking contests. Rarely is Gawn outmarked.  Asking him to play like the best ruckman of the generation is a huge stretch, I know and not a fair comparison, but bringing it to ground should be his aim.

Another interesting stat is that Gawn has now kicked as many goals for the season as he did up to the prelim final last year (11).  Which would likely mean more time forward and hence more time in ruck for Jackson. Maybe his "shock value" isn't such a shock anymore.

Well he hasn't.

You're going purely off stats alone.

His impact this year has been poor.

Agree wholeheartedly. A lot will argue based on thay 5 minute patchwork off the Grand Final which realistically as @Bring-Back-Powell pointed out other then a follow up work, most of the work was done by Oliver, Petracca and Viney.

I've been waiting for him to stamp his influence around the ground this year but he hasn't. His first instinct is always to handball when when he's got space in front of him to take the game on and get the ball forward. Is this coaching or him just not confident enough still.

I still put this down to Covid with his form, but right now other then the Gold Coast game he's had zero influence this year.

Haha “zero influence”

Gee there are some short memories in here.

Just 2-3 weeks ago, widely acknowledged as one of the best 2 man ruck combo’s EVER.

Also widely acknowledged that a key reason why we were 10-0, was the strength of having 2 of the best ruckman in the game in the same team.

From who? Please provide the exact content where this was actually said? I get that it's certainly up there in today's game, but "EVER"..?

Keen to see where you get this from.

Without Jackson’s extraordinary work in the 3rd Quarter, those boys you mentioned don’t get any work!!

He’s only 20

It is only since we started playing decent teams that the wheels have fallen off . In the last two matches good players like Petracca have been poor. Not helped of course by the loss of Mr. Big mouth bully. lJ is a keep if possible but if he wants to go then extract the maximum.

Oh well. Demonland wouldn't be Demonland without OD being overly negative.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

We will be fine without Luke given the compensation we'd receive and there's an argument to suggest we'd be better off long-term.

And what's that argument?

He should be in the midfield rotation

That's actually a very good idea. If we decide to go with a smaller forwardline in the coming weeks, this could be absolutely worth it.

I have a recollection of JT mentioning this possibility when we first drafted him.

This has been covered in depth. He was great pre getting covid, and has had a quiet few weeks since.

Interestingly enough, there was also calls on demonland around this time last year for him to be dropped after a quiet month or so.

Not many 20 year old ruckman, that have got to this level at this same age.

Hope Big Max doesn’t have a quiet month, otherwise I can just imagine how some will start a thread saying he should consider retiring!

1. Ridiculous  generalisation. You are ignoring all those posters on this thread that support Jackson.

2. You have included a quote. Who said this? Did you make it up?

tbf that was when he caught covid.  We don't know how severe it was and it may be a slow recovery for him.

Hopefully the 9 days without a game help recharge the batteries not only for him but all the players that were ill with covid or whatever it was that swept through the club 3 weeks ago.

If Luke does decide to leave what compensation can we reasonably expect? Not what you think or want but what is the Market Value of what is actually out there to offer?

Depends which club he chooses as that is the club we need to deal with.  There is a big difference in what Freo and WCE can offer.  Freo has mainly players as currency,  WCE have mainly draft picks to offer.

But I reckon he is staying.

I’m still onboard a 5-yr contract around the $3.5 million mark.  That’s probably what the ( WCE) Beagles are offerring at a minimum.

meth coke offer is a 7 year offer just shy of $1m a year if you believe the scuttlebutt

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
