I loved Voss as a player but still a few questions marks as a coach. Seems a high risk situation as the Blues have some decent top end talent but there bottom end is ordinary. I would still have the Bombers, Saints and Freo ahead of them

Some here over rating Carlton’s list. Remember they can’t defend for toffee. Makes a welcome change from the “Carlton have overtaken us” posts though

Agree. Media overrates them as well imo.

Agree 100%.  Their list is very average.  Finals next year?  No way.  IF Essendon and GWS fall out I'd still have all of WCE, Richmond, and StKilda above them, maybe even Hawthorn.

I believe St Kilda have also overtaken us.

Remember when the narrative was a decade of rivalry between Melbourne and St Kilda given their young lists brimming with talent. Around 2006 EF time.

I love reading about clubs supposedly copying the current Premier. When was the last time a Premier was lauded for having adopted someone else's gameplan and just executing it better? My recollection is that every Premier appears to have introduced something unique. It might be the gameplan; or it could be supreme fitness levels. What doesn't happen, though, is that one team successfully adopts another team's modus operandi.

And so it begins.

Our players will be lauded as Superstars. We will become the hunted. Everyone will want what we have and try to replicate our game plan.

A simple one two hand pass between Petracca and Oliver will be called incredible by commentators.

Salem will be lauded as the best kick in the league every time he gets the ball. Even when he missed one it will be a rare miss.

We're going to get A LOT more free kicks!

Carlton still lack class and grunt in midfield even with Cerra coming in - they loaded up on way too many flankers, where we started the rebuild in the guts (thanks Roosy) which is the right way to go about it

It's natural evolution that the current premier becomes the blueprint for others to copy.

As Neale Daniher says "When all is said and done, more is said than done"

Its one thing to say youre going to do it, its another to do it.

Melbourne has had a top to bottom transformation, Its bloody hard to achieve.

And another buzzword has been born. Now sit back and enjoy hearing it every second sentence for 12 months.

Surreal that OUR team was the catalyst for the footy world's latest catch cry ...

Love it, although you just feel the term itself will become nauseating at the behest of the Channel 7 commentary team real quick

Anyway, do go on...

I’m not out there spreading rumours and information about a club I use to work for

The other word Goody threw out their towards the end of last season for the team to adopt as an ethos was 'ruthless'.  Towards the end of the home and away and as the finals series progressed, I think the team became the embodiment of ruthless, in the way we won games which will be even harder for others to emulate.

I'd be quite happy for the ruthless buzz word to be associated with the MFC.

We've gone from hopeless to selfless and ruthless. Hell yeah

Now that we're back in charge of football it's unsurprising clubs will attempt to emulate us. Once we've won 4 in a row they can do whatever they like

Certainly is!

Wait till they do the player profiles for this year's draft prospects. We'll probably start seeing the "plays like.... " line, and it'll be one of our guys!

Jye Amiss is a tall forward who has been compared to a tall Bailey Fritsch from a few Bigfooty draft watchers!

They lost a bit of their Mojo after 95, but you are right. The paper bags were still around until 2001-02

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
