Jake Melksham

Sir Why You Little

Recommended Posts

30 years old and 3 games shy of 200.  12 games and 8 goals this year, no second effort any more.  Good for a team role as in 'take McGovern with you and go and sit in the stand'.

Hope he gets a go somewhere as I like players to get to a milestone.

Even if he wasn't asked to, he probably would anyway. He's at the back end of his career and breaking in to the MFC side is only going to get harder for him from here.

Melksham was outstanding in 2018 and instrumental to the competitiveness of the team that year. Happy memories for me. The fact that Essendon fans all seemed to hate him so much made watching him tear games apart all the sweeter.

Hope he can eke out another two years elsewhere.

Fit, brilliant skills and perfect for the skilled medium forward role that has become a key role in the AFL circa 2021 (eg fritter, papley, Martin, Cameron, rohan etc, etc).

Surely gets picked up.

That said, his lack of defensive effort and tackle pressure is decidedly not AFL circa 2021.

That would be tough for Goody to do. Both Melk and Hibbo really helped us out when we needed it. Just another of the hard luck stories when someone has to miss out.

👍to everyone's positive comments here.

Time to call 'time', then, on the 'Goody's Pet' theme 😉. It already went past its use-by date several weeks ago...

I wouldn't be surprised to see Melk stay, he is contracted, but if he were to get an opportunity elsewhere then good luck to him. Of the 9 oldest players on our list only 3 are guaranteed to be with us next year (Gawn, May and Hibberd), a few years ago we'd be jumping up and down saying we need Melk to be a veteran presence (using NBA terms) even if he didn't play much.

Doubt there is too much opportunity for a player of his age and ability in the current climate.

Adelaide, who are no good, delisted a player that was much better than Melksham in Lynch.

The days of everyone landing at Gold Coast are long gone too.

Melk's body is a better playing condition than Lynch, who was shot this year. Not sure I agree 100%

He was such a star for us in 2018. Will never forget the goal he kicked to seal the final against the hawks. Thought he gave us a lot and was one of the elite ball users at a time when mostly we had v few.

Hope he gets picked up and gets to 200.

Yep. That goal is ingrained forever in my memory. The Hawks had the momentum then Melksham got the ball, turned onto left boot and dobbed a monster sausage roll from outside 50. I have never heard a Melbourne crowd cheer louder. There was 90,000 + at that game - most were Demon supporters. Great memory - will always be remembered! Good luck to you Jake!

That’s 7 list changes (inc 2 retirees)… assuming they would only want to take 3 (max) in the draft/pre-season that must mean there are a few upgrades? Daw and KDC come to mind. Who else?

We had 2 'extra' players because of the injuries opening up mid-season spots. So I think it is only 5. But that is more a question for Lucifer's Hero (or whatever they are known as now - sorry!) as they are on top of it.

Well said... had his issues in H&A but certainly stood up and chipped in on the big stage.

Was part of the new age step up of players along with Hibbo, Crossy and Vince with each playing a part in the change of culture for the better.

Hmm if he is contracted then it wouldn't surprise me to see him back next year. TMac was asked to look elsewhere last year too. He is decent depth and can help bring some of the kids through at Casey at the worst. If we're already letting go/retiring Jones, Jetta, AVB, Lockhart, Nietschke and one or two others then that is a lot of turnover without having a great draft hand or too many players earmarked to come in via trade.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
