who-will-present-the-premiership-cup-melbourne

The clubs get to suggest to the AFL someone present the cup if we win.

It has to be someone already in WA.  Fox's ideas.

  • Garry Lyon - club great
  • Shane Woewodin - 2000 Brownlow medallist; played in our last GF.
  • Ken Melville 1953 Bluey winner.  played in 1955 and 1956 premierships
  • Adam Yze - played in our last GF
  • Glen Bartlett - immediate past President
  • Kate  Roffey - current President

On premiership credentials Ken Melville would get the nod.  He is 90 and if able I think is the one.

Otherwise Garry would be my choice.

the dream would be if barassi AND daniher both come out after the final siren (after being smuggled over the border) and the crowd loses its [censored]. that'd be too much.

After all of the Neeld stuff and distancing himself from the club afterwards, I'd have felt weird about Lyon presenting it if we won. But after seeing him in the rooms after the prelim, it feels more right.

Paul Roos and Daniher

In a quirk of fate, Roos was due to present the Jock McHale medal but couldn't get to WA.

I thought AFL announced that whoosha will be presenting the cup and embley presenting the norm smith medal

Woosha is the Jock McHale Medal.

I didn't want it to be Lyon but i mean Mark Neeld can present it if we win it for all i care.

In 2018 and earlier this season i had pictured Barassi and Danniher as a duo doing it. I also pictured winning it in a packed MCG.

Lyon is logical choice as he is in WA. I think Gary has shown some humility the last few weeks on fox and is self aware enough to not

Ive never heard of Ken Melville but if hes able id love it to be him, a sort of passing on the batten from the last successful era to a new one.

Shame Nathan Jones couldn't be there to do it.

Simple logistics will say Garry Lyon.

Its a lock Daz, only media identity to get an exemption over to WA.

As soon as it was mention on his show On the Couch i knew it was a lock.

It's going to be Garry Lyon

I'm not sure it would be Gaz. He's said a fair few times he feels uncomfortable about this kinda stuff, was even saying the other night he wasn't that keen to be in the rooms as he doesn't like the vibe of that whole former player trying to be involved scenario. Just gut feel, but reckon he wouldn't do it unless there wasn't really any other options.

Personally, I think it will be Woey, and that would be a nice part of making that relationship with the club better.

Paul Roos would have been my pick.

I can see them convincing Gaz.

Yeah he did say that in those interviews but I also thought he looked to be embracing it. Knowing he's one of the few club greats available and how much he cares about the team I can see them convincing him. He's still got such a strong relationship with the club and a lot of the players. Would love to see him hand it over to Max.

I am unsure which former demons live in WA?

I like the ideas of it being Shane Woewodin, Jeff Farmer (if he is back in Perth?) Ken Melville or even Garry Lyon.

I understand the criticism of Garry Lyon. He is a grumpy bugger! But he has that connection with Jimmy Stynes which is quite important. No matter what you can tell Garry Lyon still loves the Melbourne Football Club.

I doubt Neale Daniher or Ron Barassi will be able to make it across to WA due to quarantine restrictions unfortunately.

Anyway, this is all hypothetical at this stage. We still have to get the job done first and be lucky enough to win the Grand Final against the Bulldogs.

He's unavailable.  Too busy studying for his exams for his  psychology degree at the University of Western Samoa.

I love the idea of Ken Melville (age 90) being assisted by Garry.??? - both in Perth.

There will be plenty of spots for those suggested for the flag unfurling.

RDB probably but as a celebration the Tiges did it beautifully in 2018 (for the 2017 flag) which involved a number of important people to participate from Cheer squad, to supporters, older champions etc., Sam Stynes, Neale.........

The list could be endless really

Being that Barrassi and Daniher aren’t over there in WA, and Lyon was granted an exemption, it’ll probably be Gaz.

Sentimentally I would love to see Gaz and Yze do the presentation if we are lucky enough to win the Granny. They both have great MFC pedigrees and are not tainted by any other colours.❤️💙

Edit: wrong thread.

On the subject, I'd be happy to see anyone present the cup so long as we win, Lyon, Woey, The Wiz, anyone, but I can't see The Rev or Barrassi getting there unfortunately

What's stopping them from having Gaz present it, with Barrassi and Daniher (and Jones?) saying a few words via video link to the main video screen on the scoreboard?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
