FMD what a game (was going to type 'match' but it wasn't)...

Amazing!😄

CARNA DEMONS LETS [censored] GO!!!!

WOOOHOOHOOOOOO!!!!!

WE STUCK IT RIGHT UP EM!! THAT'S WHAT WE DID! STUCK IT RIGHT UP EM!!

♥️💙

As Mark Neeld said, "didn't see that coming" (though I thought we would win by maybe 4-5 goals

Great to see the players who missed out gathering around the team.  Nathan Jones looked so proud; Thommo looked happy but sad.

I'm actually speechless. Only the second Melbourne Grand Final in my lifetime.

Nat Fyfe should [censored] off

Yep and the absolute worst hair, hands down.

Seriously….Oliver sledging an opponent with 3 mins to go in the third quarter by pointing to the scoreboard. Has anyone gone that early before? Made me laugh.

Absolutely loved Viney’s first half, he was immense. When the game was there to be won he was huge. Out of many highlights that’s my pick.

Well done Demon supporters that got there tonight. You were awesome!

I was confident but not THAT confident!

That was as stress free as the last preliminary final…just the opposite.

One more Demons…one more!

Unreal.

It's just incredible that this is us doing this.

The plaudits will rightfully come for Gawn (Naitanui can go [censored] a [censored], tonight put to bed any "debate" about who is the competition's best ruckman), Viney, Petracca and Oliver, but this was a 22-player effort.

Langdon's run on the wing was far too much for their wingers. Brown's contested marking was critical, particularly early when the nerves were high (and another quiet two goals). Brayshaw looked composed. Spargo was a threat all night. May went down but Petty stood up. Hibberd played his role.

That third quarter. That rush of goals. Gawn playing like Dustin Martin.

It was just, well, perfect.

And never mind that our opponent happened to be the most arrogant, smug pack of [censored]s. That just tops it all off.

What He/She said!

On that form we are unbeatable in two weeks. It’s akin to a horse winning by 20 lengths in a Group 1 race. Unbackable next start.

Atkins is a smug [censored], loved seeing Oliver get to him.

Also loved us getting stuck into Selwood after he gave away 50, and Viney getting in Henry's face after he was outmarked by TMac (I think?).

That sort of bullying is what we've copped from Geelong for years. It's arrogant, but it's symbolic to see us give it back to them.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
