monoccular 17,760 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 (edited) Or Hunt if fully fit. But Smith is a real worry getting recurring and repeated injuries. Hard to reliably fit him into a rôle. Edited September 7, 2021 by monoccular 2 Quote
Bring-Back-Powell 15,562 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Very disappointing for Smith given he’s forever injured. As per the poster who dropped the news in the other thread, he’s one of the more replaceable players. 1 Quote
The Jackson FIX 3,512 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Was ‘Hibberd to replace’ in Tom Morris’ report or was that just an opinion? Smith was a handy match-up for Rohan. 1 Quote
Chelly 859 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 They trained yesterday afternoon but we get the report of the injury early in the morning which is around 5.30am Perth time. How did he get injured? Playing Xbox with the boys at midnight? 1 1 Quote
Lucifers Hero 40,746 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Whoever is the mfc person(s) that regularly gives Morris inside information should stop it! It happens too often. It doesn't help the club especially around this time of year. Just stop it! 18 2 1 Quote
Whispering_Jack 31,368 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Michael Hibberd set to be re-called for Melbourne’s prelim after defender’s bitter injury blow 1 Quote
Lucifers Hero 40,746 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Leaking of this really annoys me. It gives Geelong intel several days before selecting their team. Would it make a lot of difference? Maybe if they thought we would select 4 tall defenders and Smith to most likely play on Ratugalea. Every little bit of advantage counts in finals. Morris should turn in his MFC membership (if he even has one). 1 Quote

Sydee 4,684 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 This is so unfortunate for Smith - he simply can't seem to stay on the track - forever getting injuries Think I'd prefer Hunt if he is fit and ready 3 1 Quote
Swooper1987 3,322 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Rohan is listed at 188 cm, Hibberd 186, Smith 191. Hibberd to Rohan looks a reasonable match, in the air at least. Rohan does most for pace. 2 Quote

I wanted to see Rivers to Rohan so Smith could play on Sav allowing Lever to pick up a small but thats not happening now. Lever will have to go to Sav. 1 Quote
spalding 1,128 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Their height is going to be a challenge for us with Smith out. If we can sneak through this week, I think this is actually a better set-up for a GF versus Port or Dogs though. 1 Quote

Chook 15,080 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 No way Lever is playing on Ratugolea. Maybe nominally, but I suspect there will be a lot more Gawn in the backline now. 2 Quote
MadAsHell 4,217 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 My left field suggestion. Hibberd takes Cameron. Yes he's giving up 10cm, but matches him in the kg department. Allows May to Hawkins, Petty to Esava and Lever can zone off from Rohan who doesn't touch it in September anyway. 3 1 1 Quote

He is particularly annoying...one of the more punchable heads in football. ...right up there with Tom Browne. The more I think, the more the list gets longer and I haven't even started on the players. Taylor, Brayshaw, Darcy...stop it. 2 1 Quote

Bowey will be a good player and has done well so far...so it's no knock on him but Hunt is more experienced and a bit bigger and stronger...i think we have to do it given the stakes. Also think Hibberd is just a better defender than Smith and gives us a real 'known quantity'. 3 Quote
titan_uranus 25,255 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Rotten luck for Smith. Really only two options to replace him, Hibberd or Hunt. Jetta hasn't played since Round 10 whilst Daw, Lockhart and Hore haven't played at all this year. Given Geelong's forward line, Hibberd is really the only option. Have to trust him to go with either Cameron or Rohan. 1 Quote

Demonstone 23,600 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 From the Fox article. They English speak good! Of small conciliation is the fact he penned a deal for 2022 last month. 1 Quote
Deestar9 1,860 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 When all is said and done..very lucky we have an experienced (some would say best 22) defender to come straight in. Smith is unfortunately injury prone and thank goodness he did his hamstring at training and not in the match. Geelong will find it much harder to replace Parfitt as a defensive mid given that they have already had to replace Mark O.Connor. We have to really maximise it in the midfield & we do have the luxury of Max down back . 2 Quote
