Bit harsh on Smith . There are a lot of people who lose one on ones against CHarlie, But not many that can keep up with him (see the replay 3rd Q I think )

Why does smith get a pass, his opponent single handedly kept lions in the game, the number of times he was out of position or caught ball watching is unacceptable, granted he was playing on a good player but given the lions supply Cameron should not have had anywhere near the influence he did. Smith should not been seen again this year after that performance

Feeling a bit wired and flustered.

One game to go (maybe two), and a two week wait to play.

Usually watching the finals as a kind of neutral supporter with a small lean to the underdog.

Wow, in the box seat!

Winning games when we are favourites, can't remember when we did that on a regular basis.

Such a great year, like a 'coming of age" story.

Such a great week, all Australians, a rising star, a captain, a coaches award, then this win.

Go Dees!

So many top efforts it’s hard to know where to start: Rivers, Kossie, ANB...  You could almost list the whole team.

I was particularly impressed with Sparrow’s game and I thought Langdon was back to his first half season form where he gets all the way up into the forward line and hits the score board. First time he has kicked a goal since round 13. I wonder whether they’ve been saving this part of his game for finals.

My only concern is TMac. He’s never been fast but he seemed particularly slow today and lacked awareness of what was happening around him. I’d back him in but gee I hope he can find some of his form from earlier in the season.

WA currently have Victoria listed as ‘medium risk’

Medium risk jurisdictions

You are not permitted to enter without an approval through G2G PASS.

If permitted entry, you must self-quarantine at a suitable premises for 14 days. If a suitable premises is not available, you will be directed to a Government approved quarantine facility at your own expense.

Approved travellers are subject to a COVID-19 test within 48 hours of arrival and on day 12 of quarantine, or at any point when symptoms develop. A mask must be worn while travelling to and from the COVID Clinic.

You must wear a mask from when you enter WA until you arrive at suitable self-quarantine premises or government approved quarantine facilities. In addition if travelling by air, you must also wear a mask on the flight while in WA airspace, and while inside the airport (with some exceptions – e.g. children under the age of 12 are not required to wear a mask).

Or just get a job as a truckie

Where do you begin, what a team. Oli in the first half was the best in the game, Tracc on par in the second half.

Once we were able to slow down the Lions ball movement, the structure/defence just leaning back on the ropes before punching out of the clinch is a site to behold. A little nervy this week with such a young group but settled into it.

Long gone are the days you just knew we’d be rolled over after a good half of footy, we’d run out of gas, couldn’t finish etc etc.

A sad pleasure of the night was my amazing wife sitting next to me deeply engrossed in the game for the second half. She’s not much of a footy/sports fan (was a Bombers fan growing up) but last night she was as engaged as I was and jumping up and down and clapping through the last qrt. It was a pleasure to have someone to enjoy it with, sad for not being able to share with a group of Dees mates and other family.

Cant wait to watch the replay with my 5yr  this morning.

Go Dees!!!

We didn’t even play our best. Second quarter we looked deadly, but we can play better. Certainly not our best night in defense and yet…

We lost the clearances, kick poorly from set shots and didn’t defend the ground ball particularly well. If it clicks in the next few games the opposition won’t get close.

Right on, maybe I'm deluded from years of watching this team however again I felt we should have won by another 3-4 goals.  I think we have another level

I’m pretty sure the commentators (on the Fox broadcast) made mention that the switch was made on Cameron from Salem to Smith. Perhaps in the quarter time break.

They were wrong.

Ecstatic for some of the faithful that got to see the boys live last night. There was a bit of noise there, it sounded like it anyway.

Nearly 14k there, not bad considering a 20k cap.

Firstly, if we kick straight and are more efficient then this is 60+ point smashing. It’s baffling that we somehow managed to go goalless in the third quarter but that was not for lack of good play it was just poor use at the final point. They (the Dees players) made us (the fans) earn the win but we were far an away the better team from quarter time onwards.

Oliver is a beast, I don’t think I’ve had more love for a Melbourne player. He is such a gun and the best thing is that now he is also hitting the scoreboard. He had so many score assists and if the forwards had done their job they would turn into more goal assists. But for them not to tag him was just plain ludicrous.

Fritta brings so many smiles to my face, 50+ goals already from a mid-size forward is incredible. Looking back on how he came to the club and how we got him through the Jack Watts pick you really have to take your hat off to the Goody and the selectors.

Prelim final means we get to relax and hope that the cats and GWS beat up on each other.

Does anyone else think we need a new coach or am I the only one?

Still, maybe, need a goal kicking coach.

ANB, I have been eating Crow and Humble Pie this year over you and last night fully choked on them. Great game last night, if not your best and in a final. Well done son, you are a valued member of the team and I was wrong to want you delisted.

There are two type of demonalanders.

1. Those who were critical and questioned the value of Viney & Brayshaw at any point this year.

2. Those who didn’t.

I know where I stand.

I criticised Viney but not Brayshaw. what does that make me? 😁

Trac must have heard my sons comment on how inept he had been at times coz he then kicked 2.!!!!!

I am amazed at how loosely they play on him (Trac, not my son).

And could someone tell me where do I find the "Do anything you like to Viney" in the rule book?

Loved that hard groundball clash he had with McCarthy.  They both went in hard and neither one went head-first looking for the cheap free.  Perfect technique from both players, great contested clash and Sparrow damn near killed the guy when they hit.  🤣

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
