Some players are just naturals. Size doesn't matter when you have speed of mind and great skills.  Can't see this bloke getting flustered and I cant see him being dropped.

I thought he would have come in earlier but we rightfully gave Jetta the chance early and made Jake earn his stripes so he was 100% ready to be successful

Great drafting, development and selection MFC

Love the nickname Bowser! Love this kid, looks a damn good pick up.

I love this kid already. We have kept him nice and secret and fresh for the finals. What a brilliant player he is going to be for us over the next decade and a half. Well done Jake! I was coach of the1973 Cheltenham High(Jake's recent School) footy team. I also coached the late and great Trevor Barker at the same school. Looks like my coaching skills live on. Ha ha. But I really did coach Trev at Chelt High.Go Dees you CAN Do It!!!!

A high school? Well that won't be mentioned in the channel seven coverage by BT and Brayshaw!

He’s looked as good in just first three games as I can remember any Melbourne debutant.

I knew nothing of him before he was getting senior games (didn’t see him at Casey) but he has totally blown me away just how good he is already.

Even the great Ron Barassi had to have a few goes before he made the big time. And boy was it ever big time!

Makes me excited to see Laurie in action next year. The recruiters seemed equally bullish about his skills and footy IQ.

You just missed on having me as your teacher by 30 plus years. Great school Chelt.

Surely this kid's nickname is "David" ?

His name is Bowey as in Bowser, not Bowie, as in David. It wouldn't be a particularly apt nickname, hence the nickname Bowser. :P

Just out of curiosity, what's the record for Rising Star nominations by one club in a season? I really can't imagine it being higher than our four.

Couple that with All Australian records. We could break both

Well done Jake  wonderful start to your career at Demonland. Many great years ahead for you and our team.

He looks like being a better player than his dad !!

I suspect in years to come people will refer to Brett Bowey as Jake Bowey's father !!

Thanks for killing the dream. But he'll always be David to me.

I can't wait for Bailey Laurie to get a gig, like the way he moves. I reckon he'll be as good or even better.

That lightning handball to the peripheral did it for me. That sort of handball only happens two or three times per game..

I know people compare him to Daniels from the dogs but I think he is more like Parish from Essendon. Both great players and we would be happy if he becomes anywhere near as good as those two.

I think his next level in a year or two is into the midfield. He is very quick.

Well I doubt if he ever qualified to attend one.   (Nobody seems to claim him 🤭)

Quick - not only on his feet, but with his hands and mind.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
