Do you think he'll get named on the bench or as medi-sub before season's end so we get to say goodbye, and more importantly, thank you?

I have so much love for this bloke, he was the reason I kept watching during those years

No. We carried him to 300, and there’s no home town crowds to say goodbye anyways. He went into this year with full knowledge of what it was. We did the right thing by him, and now the club needs to move forward.

This will be the a gut wrenching finals campaign for Jonesy, but his only chance was missed a few years back.

He can be proud that he was a part of the rising of the club from the depths of hell - still won’t make it any easier for him

Get him out there to help unfurl the 2021 Premiership flag early 2022 when crowds are back.

No gifted games at this end of the season.

A carry off would be nice at least.

I premiership medal would be nice too.

Nobody should be writing off a champion of this club just yet.

Anzac eve was his spiritual farewell game to me. I’d like him to be GF day sub if we get there and he’s not on one leg, but for me I’ll never forget the night we pantsed the tigers and Jones had the ball in the dying seconds. What a farewell that would make, and was, if that’s all there is.

I really thought he was a chance to be sub this week. Not even being in the squad suggests it is probably 302 and out for Jones.

Agree with others, a big win against the Tigers in his 300th was not a bad way to go out really. Better than a lot of others in more recent times...

His fairwell game was his 300th in a win, in front of a big crowd on the MCG. It was the perfect send off.

I hear you... and I'm a little sad. Feels like it's not on his terms (which I guess it aint).

Perhaps he can be given the task of presenting the trophy on Grand Final Day when we win it

Great clubman, and we should all be very grateful to him.

However I think the Club has gone above and beyond helping him getting to 300 games. I can't see him getting another game.

I THINK he’s played his last but AVB came back from the dead and played last week so never say never (fwiw I would have Jones ahead of AVB in the pecking order 8 days a week).

I wouldn’t be opposed to playing him as the sub on grand final day if he’s fit and depending on the opponent (Geelong aren’t quick so perhaps that suits). But Jones had a great sendoff in his 300th and if we do win the flag I would be happy for him to be on the ground with the guys and maybe even accept the cup with Gawny, sort of like Murphy at the Dogs.

Unless we think he can help us in finals then I’m against the idea. In a year where we are contending and have the luxury of looking at a couple of options before finals I do not believe giving Chunk a farewell game is in the best interests of the club. We celebrated his career against Richmond so the club have done the right thing by him. From here on in let’s focus 100% on winning the flag.

  • Whispering_Jack changed the title to Will Nathan Jones get a farewell game?

Remember Sheedy  left out Derek Kickett.
Essendon won easily. He should have played.

Jones should stay match fit right up to the grand final.

Neville Jetta too, feel sorry for those two guys.

Yeah if Joel Smith is named on the extended bench ahead of him it's not looking great

Not sure I would have Jones as a SUB if we got to the GF. We need a player that could impact the game and selected to play a role. No doubt in the GF a SUB baring an early injury would be likely substituted in at some later stages of the game for tactical purposes. No use pretending otherwise.

Kicket only having 2 possessions in the prelim final and 8 in the first Semi with no goals didn’t help him. He did play 23 games that season so that’s a little different to Jones who hasn’t been a regular player for a long time. Kickett was a victim of Sheedy’s ruthlessness.

That's a job for RDB  and it will likely be the last chance for him as well so we better win.

Maybe Jones could walk him out to the dais

He should only play if he has earnt it of course.

I have him higher in the pecking order than Vanders, so I reckon he will earn at least one game over the next 6 weeks.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
