But thinking to the future is Trac our next leader of the Demon pack?

I know lever is prob up there but I am super impressed with what I’m reading and hearing about Trac atm…

I think you might be right. I can see the next leader being either Lever or Petracca. I'm actually confident that Trent Rivers will also be a future leader for us. He's only into his second season and he already plays like a senior footballer. Also helps that half backs are known to be good captains.

How people view leadership is very subjective in an organisation that has week values and a poor culture.

We’ve finally turned that corner and in a big way when you listen to the likes of Gawn, Lever and as above with Petracca.
The standards are solid, the culture has changed and matured - guided by a football program that we probably don’t give enough kudos to.

My choice of our next Skipper would be Petracca ahead of Lever. Both very important players but the game breaking plays from Petracca sets him apart from Lever and therefore I see him as the next natural on field leader whilst he has clearly shown his off-field development.
Probably worth a shout out to his girl as well. Since she’s come on the scene Christian has really figured things out.

If DL had a say in it I know who it wouldn’t be... Jake Melksham. Amirite???

I actually really like Melks ❤️?

I am probably going to be shot down for this, but I wouldnt discount Gus.

Wouldn't shout you down, but I don't agree.

I think Viney will make a comeback at some point, even if it's to fill the gap between Max and the next. Lever is a good candidate and May is probably too old. I am not sure on Trac still.

Rick Lever. Loved his interview after the pies game. Honest, No BS. Reckon he's next in line

He spoke so well. And he kinda commands respect.

Jake Lever will be our next captain in my opinion. Max probably holds it for a while yet though.

It's great that Tracs leaderships is developing to the point he's in the conversation though

Sam Weideman.

Someone will have to Marshall the forward line once Old McDonald and Ben Brown are put out to pasture I suppose... Although Melksham might still be getting games so maybe he's next in line

Jack Viney

I can see Jack taking up the mantle again, he's still vice captain and well respected through the club.

Other thank Jack it would have to be Lever for me, every time he speaks he speaks like a leader who loves responsibility. He's also a general down back, directing and talking to the other players. The moment that sticks out for me that makes me think he'll be a captain one day for us was when May went down early against the cats, and I'm pretty sure they got a dodgy free kick to get a goal the cats players were baiting us and trying to get a rise out to do something stupid. Jake stepped in and dragged everyone out of it and reset the situation.

I think it would stiff on Jack to have him deputise to the next person, but at the end of the day it's peer and coach voted so you make your impact on the park.

I'm not normal, but I'd follow Lever. I'd be afraid of Jack, and not trust his judgment.

EDIT: I should add, I'd follow Max above both of them.

I love that Petracca mentions he is practising his ball drop with Yze. Sometimes on set shots he used to drop it from chest height.

Trent Rivers and James Jordon will be pushing depending on how long Max keeps it for. Rivers handles the media incredibly well in interviews.

Trac has really matured over the last 2 seasons and has shown leaderships qualities for sure. I’m not sold he is the type of character who can carry the mantle of captain though. The responsibility could affect his performances. Better to leave him to focus on being as damaging as he can be ala Dusty.

Lever then daylight. Leadership is not necessarily about being the best player but about having the capacity to translate vision into reality via effective communication.

Maturity is important. Love seeing Petracca growing up before our eyes.

Being able to articulate team values and direction, and speaking after wins or losses are important. Brad Green and Jack Viney really struggled with this.

Being a draw card for members and supporters is also important. Max Gawn excels at this.

Playing with heart and soul, and team-inspiring strength and commitment. Jack Viney excels at this.

But in essence, it is about influence. To quote John Maxwell - "A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way". So, who would our players, club personnel and supporters naturally look to and follow?

So, Jake Lever by a mile.

Ans as far as AFLW goes, we have the best leader by a mile - Daisy Pearce. Now THAT is a leader. We have had some great appointments over the past 7 years - CEO Jackson, Roos, Goodwin, Choco, Burgess. Personally, I rate Daisy Pearce in the Roos category. A1 football person who is a brilliant player, great with a microphone, inspiring leader.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
