Even the content of the article makes clear the Demons weren't given a choice in the matter and were appealing it to the last moment.

So why the headline that makes it sound like the Demons actively disrespected Indigenous Australians and people are outraged?

AFL FANS FURIOUS OVER DEMONS INDIGENOUS GUERNSEY NOT BEING WORN

The article has been edited a bit in the time since I first noticed it but the stupidity is still strong.

You can see why no-one at the ABC wanted to put their byline on it.  Perhaps a Saturday morning intern looking to get some social justice credits in the bank and not too concerned about actual social justice issues?

A frustrating aspect with this kind of thing too is that the writers don't get to choose the headline. That one is a travesty of journalistic integrity.

Ridiculous article text in the early paragraphs. Making out that it was our choice not to wear an indigenous guernsey (I think the supposed clash was nonsense anyway given the markedly different brightnesses of the respective guernseys), then the situation is labelled a "debacle", with the inference that the MFC was the cause!!! Absurd garbage.

Added annoyance

A very minor issue. To quote the article:

"It was reported the Demons were told weeks ago by the AFL that their predominantly red guernsey was too similar to the Bulldogs’ predominantly blue guernsey. "

Everyone who is whingeing now needs to harden up. We won in our traditional guernsey. We'll wear the indigenous one next week, I suspect the Lions will wear prefominantly white.

Having become a regular reader of the ABC News app and a regular viewer of the 24 ABC News channel since the Covid hit us last year, I have come to realize some journalists display a fair amount of ignorance in some subjects, and don't always do their research. Some of the line of questioning they pursue at the state press conferences are unbelievable. The answers to their questions can usually be found themselves, not by asking them at a press conference and wasting everyone's time.

Anyway, it seems many of the presenters and journos at the ABC seem to be from NSW and QLD, so I suppose you have to factor that in. They will never understand our passion.?

I think our indigenous players and supporters would have found it a lot more meaningful to wear it this week, though, given the nature of the week - that’s what I infer from listening to interviews like May did on Yokayi Footy, and that a celebration opportunity that is important to them was robbed from them as a result.

I’m not indigenous so I don’t know where that actually sits on the big deal scale for them (I would like to know, though - any indigenous Australian Demonlanders want to comment?) and even within the community there would be a range of views, but it’s why I felt annoyed about it.

It's wrong that we weren't allowed to wear the indigenous jumper last night, but getting upset enough to create a post about a clickbait headline in today's media landscape?

I don’t know enough about how ABC’s journalistic processes but it would be nice if there was some accountability. Pretty outraged by it and need a better explanation.

I'd literally opened Demonland for the morning at the same time I saw the article so just shared what I came across while the irritation was still with me.

Y'know, not everyone who posts about an annoying article is crying while they do it.

All the commentary I’ve heard suggests that fans are ‘furious’ at the AFL, not the MFC.  There really isn’t a clash at all and most people can see that.

No real problem with the headline.

(There’s also a fun irony in that the title of this thread gives no information and could therefore also be seen as click bait)

These two quotes combined - 'AFL fans question why Demons didn't run out in their Indigenous guernsey against Bulldogs' and 'with a number of posts suggesting the Demons had no reason not to wear their Indigenous guernsey' could be a total 4 people who had an issue with what happened.

I did notice hat the lions have a home and away version of their indigenous jumpers. We could have put our design on a white jumper if we really wanted to. Not sure how that would have looked tho.

do not mention white jumpers

repeat after me......do not mention white jumpers

It’s called tall poppy syndrome...we are a tall poppy.

I agree with Little Goffy. It is a rubbish headline. The Indigenous Round is very important and we as a club have shown great respect (as we should) for a long time

Speaking of clash jumpers, the pies and cats jumpers looked incredibly similar today

As I've said in other posts, the AFL's decision to deem our jumper a clash with the Dogs is a disgrace.

It's exacerbated because of it being an indigenous jumper designed to be worn in Sir Doug Nicholls round, but the core problem is the AFL's "policy" treats most clubs one way, but treats Carlton, Richmond and Essendon in a different way.

They let Essendon wear a black jumper as the away side on ANZAC Day when their opponent, Collingwood, also wore a black jumper.

It's embarrassingly and unfairly inconsistent.

The jumpers of both teams were shown on TV post match - no sane person could perceive any inkling of a clash, only some blind bureaucrat at AFL HQ, or I guess an umpire (or maybe Michael Christian), but certainly nobody in their right mind, or with any degree of visual acuity.

The AFL is already a joke but just how pathetic the decision was - Not deemed a clash

Hang your heads in shame AFL, absolute disgrace, great way to support and promote the Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous round.

Don't forget the year the AFL allowed the umpires to wear pink and our pink v shaped jumper for women's breast cancer round. Massive clash then.

The ABC has lost its soul in reporting news accurately and is much more concerned about identity politics. Did Covid mistakenly come out of a Wuhan lab was a massive story for the last 12 months. The ABC ignored it and poked fun on it in their Media Watch segment. Now Joe Biden has called an inquiry they are pretending it is knew news.

Oh no.  Oh, no.  I really did it, didn't I? First time in a long time I've impulse-posted a new thread and I am just biting my own backside all over.

they told us a while ago that we couldn't wear it; we appealed, and were told the day of the game that there was a clash and we would have to wear our normal jumper - i'm amazed they didn't tell us to wear our clash jumper...which would have been an ACTUAL clash...and then put the maggots in royal blue too to just cement the idiocy

ahem..

I totally agree. This is such an important issue. And I for one think LG has every right to express feelings borne of passion for our beloved Dees. If not in DLand, then where else?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
