I don't think he's ready but i'd be curious to see if Joel Smith fairs any better than Petty in the lock down KPD role. I also believe I may be alone with this curiosity.

Hmm, may get a bit lonely for you @Dannyz. Whilst Joel is athletic, is he physically strong enough, and assured enough, to play that role?

I used to be a fan, 3-4 years ago. But he has low footy IQ and is easily bodied out of contests. His best go is VFL only

Such calls from dees fans, who i assume actually watch our games. are headache inducing.

Add calls for nibbler to be dropped to that mix.

And I needed a pack of panadol to deal with the suggestion fritter should be dropped after the swans game.

Now that Oscar is gone, and TMac is approaching Sainthood, ANB is already beatified and St Charlie has grown wings people need to find another "dog"to kick so enter Melksham & Gus with Petty & Chandler as emergencies because they have to complain about something.

I too have a soft spot for Smith.  Yes maybe it's just natural athleticism but I think he's been unlucky - had a lot of injuries and then been rushed into the side to play roles he has not been able to train.

We all could see the benefits that Thomlinson had in training for that particular role over summer.

Having said that, given his injuries, I wouldn't want to see him come in unless one of our back three go down injured or Petty is found to be not up to the level (doubt that will happen).

Even though I'm a fan (more of his potential than output) it will be tough at the end of the year as I think he is out of contract.  Maybe they'd give him a year?

2 possible changes

  • sparrow for chandler (i'd give chandler a 2nd chance, especially against crows)
  • jackson for bb/sw??  ( a very tough one this....no idea how fd view this)

Does anyone think there is any possibility that this week they try ALL 4 of Jacko, TMac, BBrown + Weid and then drop one of them for the Dogs clash?

Gut feel is that Weideman will miss, and Jackson will come back in

It’s been said many times that being spoiled for choice is a “nice problem to have.” Nonetheless, it is a problem.

I'd keep the talls as is for one more week to see if either Weid or BBB can distinguish themselves from the other.

Jacko back in the following wk.

According to the MFC site Jackson is a definite starter. Which tall makes way?  Very happy not to be a selector this week

Ben Brown? Hitting .667 for poor games.

Yes. An audition for the big 2 games.

Also a risky proposition as we need to get the 4 points this weekend.

Yeah I actually have a feeling they might try all of the tall forwards this week. Except Brown they are all mobile.

Brown can do stuff all in a game yet still come away with a couple of goals, don't think Weid has that trait in him

I think it’ll just be Weideman back out for Jackson. Chandler was the clear 22nd best player, however I don’t think Jackson for Chandler being a realistic exchange, it’s way too tall.

In Goody’s presser today he was at pains to say the talls all knew the situation and were clear on where things stood; I read between the lines that he’s getting ready to tell one of them they’re back out. Weideman played the role Jackson would so it makes sense to me.

Now you will probably faint at this but I think that is a bit tough on the Weid. In for a game that did not suit tall’s and then out again.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
