If Malthouse had one he might realise he is an old has been that no one listens to anymore.

I am OK with Malthouse's observation.  Perhaps the players should put this comment on their 'mirrors' and use it as motivation.  There is no doubt in my mind that this group have under performed up until now.

Of all the "expert" predictions prior to the commencement of the 2019 season he was the only one who didn't have us playing Finals.

Just sayin'.

True.
He had Adelaide, Nth Melbourne and and Essendon instead.

I don’t know the context for this but it’s just exceptionally lazy if it’s not part of a larger discussion of who/where/why some of our players are playing individual football.

Jake Niall addressed this with some of our mids in a detailed article.

We could also do with an outside mid or forward who’s selfish if they are really dangerous. I sure wouldn’t say no to Tom Papley for instance.

Petracca doesn’t always do the team thing but he’s earnt some license. Gawn, Viney, Oliver, May, Lever could all play the percentages better at times but for every time they bite off too much they also do really great team acts. They are overwhelmingly team players but need coaching and collective leadership.

Yes but they sure as hell better not tell anyone that's what they're doing, lest they cop a spray from Demonland about "all talk, no action".

Quite a few articles now with a similar theme, if the club are pushing this narrative and this hard, it must be quite serious.

There is nothing going on in the Footy world outside AFLW.  We will always be the easy target for comments like this because of our performance.  Only one way to shut the journo's up.

I agree - selfless football is great but sometimes you need someone to back themselves in and take the risks.

I think where we fall down as a team if the selfless acts when we don't have the ball - gut running, shepherding etc that the best teams seem to do much better.

Just take a look at those 2 games in Cairns.
the Team just expected to win..

Even against Bottom Sides, you still have to work hard as a unit to win.
The MFC fails to do that so often, year after year.

Blocking is pretty popular ... particularly in marking contests. The Richmond defence are masters at it.

However, the gentle art of shepherding seems to have all but vanished. At least for the Dees.

How often (over the past couple of years) have you seen a handball to a team mate  accompanied by a shepherd allowing the receiver to run off without direct pressure from an opponent?

Good point bingers, we just don’t protect the ball carrier enough, to my eye anyway. It was evident early against the Dogs. Our boys just seem to run by a teammate carrying the ball with arms wide open just calling for it.

I watched a few of last year’s games over the summer and this is why I think Pickett will turn into a really good footballer. In many of those games his job wasn’t done when he fed a handball off, he made sure he found an opponent to put some contact on and give his teammate some time and space.

Trac often Does the team thing, ie tries to pass off rather than have a shot at goal himself, when it's arguable If he would be better off having the shot.

IMO he is our best team player followed by the group of players you mentioned.

The on ballers have been accused of being selfish in going for the ball all together and not playing team footy..

Didn't  notice that vs Tigers when Clarry played and the young mids also did some nice things.

Yze has as his responsibility this part of our game inc. Gawny's tap work so I expect it to be kept at the forefront of his training for all the on ballers including ruckman.

25% improvement in this area of our game can be achieved and I trust Yze to bring home the bacon in this facet of our football.

Malty still salty about how his glowing Mark Neeld reference turned out at MFC. He hates us.

I get sick of this type of talk each year too when it has almost never been backed up - but makes me wonder whether its a case of the media / comms / marketing areas of the club saying that if they aren't "upbeat" about our prospects then it costs us X memberships which mean x dollars etc etc.
