They are just working up to it. Anger management takes time.

True rjay. Except you have to actually be angry to have something to manage.

Max is trying but anger the exactly wrong quality you need. It leads to poor decisions etc....

Why can't they be committed desperate confident focussed supportive tireless ruthless ambitious hard working. Those are qualities I'm interested in.

Why do people get so angry at these type of articles? It was captains day the other day, so they sit around and talk non-stop to journo's and get their photo's taken. The journo's then go off and write puff pieces about every club, not just ours. Most of the questions will be directed in a way that they know they can grab a headline or 2, and it seems like quiet a few on here have fallen for that hook line and sinker. Journalism/media these days is all about who can yell the loudest or make the most outlandish claims (McClure, Cornes etc.) or who can generate a headline that generates enough clicks.

Because it's like watching an alcoholic. He swears he's off the drink, this time really off it. He's seen the damage it's caused. He regrets it all and swears it won't happen again. He's sorry he bashed the missus and terrified the kids. It's happened for the last time.

Next week he goes out, gets smashed, bashes the missus, terrifies the kids, and next morning says how sorry he is and THAT was the last time. That was really the last time. No more. He's had enough of hurting the people he loves. THAT was the last time. No more grog, ever. He's off it for good.

Next week ...

We're the battered wives and kids and it sticks in the craw to hear the alcoholic swear he's off it for good.

I'm more interested in the article that was linked in the gawny one that said:

'Fremantle’s depth will be put to the test immediately with four first-choice players to miss early stages of the season after a casualty-ridden pre-season derby clash with West Coast last weekend.

Big man Rory Lobb avoided a need for surgery on the right knee he injured in Sunday’s clash at Optus Stadium but will have to wear a brace for approximately six weeks.....

All-Australian forward Michael Walters, 30, suffered a hamstring injury and scans showed he would likely miss three to four weeks.

Youngsters Bailey Banfield (syndesmosis) and Mitch Crowden (calf), who were pushing for selection against Melbourne in round one, would also miss the early part of the season.'

Freo by 20 points?

I hope that our whole team plays on the edge of angry.

How many times have we seen midgets bullying Max by hitting him all day.  How about get angry and fight back Max? Or maybe team mates protecting our own?  The only one i seen that really stands up for others on our team atm is May...and probably one of the few to give advice or a much needed bake to a team mate too.

Insipid performances are the opposite of playing angry, or even being slightly angry from previous failures.

The proof comes when the real stuff starts.   Are we actually going to get angry and uncompromising to play against, or just continue to go through the highs and lows and just expect it all comes together at some stage.

Every game is a war to be won. If i see insipid performances or drinking of bathwater which leads to more insipid performances i will vomit.  Our team needs to turn up on a regular basis, have their head in the game, get involved in the game and stop putting in substandard performances.  Am sure we are all sick to death of it!

I really don't know what some people expect Gawn to say.  Of course it means little.  Given that he has to say something in this modern era, I'd like to see critical posters post some press releases here that are significantly better.

How about this Sue?

The players are aware we have a problem winning games we are expected to win. Our performances last year in Cairns were unacceptable. With a finals position on the line against two sides below us on the ladder, we simply choked. Some fans have accused us of 'drinking our own bath water'. Based on those performances in crucial games, they are correct. We let ourselves down but most importantly, we disappointed our fans . . . again. And for that, I say, on behalf of the players, we're sorry. You, the fans, supporters and members are the lifeblood of the club and provide us with a lifestyle most people can only dream about. And we abused your trust, support and love. For that, on behalf of the players, I apologise.

In 2021 we undertake to play a more accountable and disciplined style of game. This means further developing our individual strengths and minimising the influence our weaknesses have on the outcome of each game. For example, Jack Viney is committed to playing Aussie Rules each weekend, I'm gradually improving my goal kicking and hope to thread at least one per game this year and Maysie's target is to keep all the gorillas to two goals or less in each game he plays. All the players will be held accountable, both internally and externally, for their on field performances. To that end, Jack, Stephen and I will front the media each week, and on behalf of the players, answer for our performances as truthfully as possible.

I love Max, but I really wish he would stay away from this kind of stuff. As one of the most senior and longest serving players on the list, he is more responsible than most for us underachieving over the past decade.

And why would he possibly want to drag us until the Lumumba mess?

Wow . . . just wow! How specifically is Max more responsible than most for us underachieving over the past decade? There's another poster on here, Anti-Saint, who is of a similar mindset. What am I missing?

Especially on Freo, being our next up game.

Hurt them on the scoreboard Dees.

Bring the pain, to the next game, then the next, and for the whole season.

Give your pain to every next team.

Then I will know that what they say, they really mean, and they will do something about it.

Do they want ultimate success badly enough, or is being on an AFL list good enough?

There must be some truth to his statement. As is our anger for many seasons.

I want it turned into action and good results.

Though as many have pointed out, I may be dreaming!

I reckon we've seen every emotion other than anger from this group over the last few years.

Viney and May possibly aside, the only thing you ever see from our players is either jokes and smiles or head down sad sacks who come back a day later full of promises again.

We get it, they have to say stuff, articles have to be written etc, but these words just ring so so empty to Dees fans.

Nev, we don’t always see eye to eye but completely agree here.

We get angry because we care.

I want to believe Maxy but unfortunately the words ring hollow puff piece or no puff piece.

Perhaps start with feeling ashamed - when the chips were down, the Demons failed to deliver.  It was in their own hands and they stuffed it up.  They should be angry with their attitude and application.  Hold each other to account for once.  Then get over it and play like you want to be there.

The Demons need to sniff the bowl of chopped onions. Clear the head, make very serious and repeated steps to ensure that poor teamwork, lax but well-paid secondary work ethics and questionable decision-making fade into oblivion rapidly.

The last few years have been immense opportunities to claw into a final. They failed.

If it cannot be politely expected to be a coaching problem, then it is solely a player problem and yet, we have some of the best talent and team mixtures in the AFL.

Get on with it, boys. Become men of the field.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
