Not the best news but not the worst, I suppose  surgery was always going to be the result with persist swelling. Question is will they be able to manage him well enough to prevent the swelling from becoming a regular issue.

Ben has obviously been training in some discomfort for a couple of months now going on the amount of tape wrapped around his knee.

Why wasn't a call made earlier to explore the knee in greater detail?

[censored] poor planning and injury forecasting from the club, should have been onto it alot earlier than this week.

Surely there was a touch point plan in place that if Ben was training in discomfort after the new year it he would have a clean up.

Would have been wise to explore the knee if it was still flairing up after the first week back?

wasted a month for no good reason.

Won't see him till around match day 6-8 everything going to plan.

Won't hold my breath.

WFA No training didn't start till JAN 5/6

You are assuming OLD times 2020 went a month longer and only 4 years and under ( and any others that wanted to) started in late 2020 and Browny acc. To reports was not on the track till Jan.

So your argument time wise sort of breaks down.

Yes it's not ideal but this injury seems reliably and professionally approached with a sensible as possible outcome.

Will also be a good test for Tommy Mac Jacko and Weid early on.

Now all the forwards know the Heat is on and serious competition will be the norm from now on!

None of the track reports I read noted that he was “obviously” in discomfort. And I’m not sure what injury “forecasting” is. There’s no way to predict when a player will get injured. Do you mean ongoing monitoring of the knee given his history?

We’ve got the best in the business in Burgess leading the fitness and medical team. He got our full list fit and firing last year after the shambles that was 2019 so I think he deserves a bit more faith. From all accounts BB was training well and other than the bandage on the knee was showing no ill effects at all.

I think we all need to take a chill pill and let the medical team do their thing. Much better to get this treated now than after the season had started.

But that does not fit into the 'club mismanages injuries and we got a dud' narrative all the Chicken Littles are running with. You would think some on here prefer the club to fail.

I'm pretty sure everything that's been said about his knee mentions he was not in pain.

Interesting, gives a bit of perspective. Maybe it's not as debilitating as some here have thought...

Sounds to me like we decided to take the really cautious and deliberate approach and fix it early instead of trying to manage it throughout the year.

Funny that.

Seeing some of the self proclaimed doctors on here, they've already ruled him out for the year?

Fairy normal right to have major knee surgery (last year) and have lingering issues soon after...

As usual the sky hasn't fallen in and it's not strawberry fields. It's somewhere in the middle.

We'll have a better idea where he is at come round four.  In the meantime Jackson, the Weed and possibly TMac need to cover for BB.

Surgery, recovery, recuperation, getting back to training, building up match fitness, then trying to find form.  He'll be useless for the first half of the season.

Good thing Grand Finals are won in the second half of the season, then.

Exactly right. Nearly all major knee injuries / operations often result in minor ongoing issues, especially for athletes.

I am happy the club jumped on the swelling as soon as it became an issue. Better to nip it in the bud early and have him play the majority of the season / his career pain free.

Luckily, for the usual suspects, they've still got Viney to fret over.

Ah, you mean the 1967 amendment regarding the constitutional position of Indigenous Australians... how does that work? ?

BDA no pills need to be taken here perfectly chilled, Ben was obviously playing in pain last year with his output and season ending before the break right? So there might have been a risk of it flairing up in a game situation right?

I'm sure the MFC we're all over it they might have missed something Norf's Docs might not be as thorough as ours.

Did Ben get anything explored within the knee with Norf? Did he have any surgery or just let it heal naturally?

Just some of the questions i would like to be answered.

Injury Forecasting is a new buzz word in NBA which covers injury prevention, monitoring, recovery and planning  might be ahead of schedule with my terminology.

Just Frustrated would like all our players training together with no issues. Nothing's perfect BDA.

Some of the "doctors" on here should stick to team selection or AFL rulesto comment.

Actually  come to think of it they are Sort of sh.....se at them also!!!

Norf done good.

Why he didn’t go through the Richmond medical team is beyond me.

Keeps feeding the negative ones who not only are a half glass empty but a QUARTER glass all the time.

They are like Trump need to create chaos and trouble so they can look good "solving all the dramas" at the Club. But of course they don't because they don't use facts and information provided. Eg saying Ben Brown should have declared this injury in the first month  ( before Christmas )  BB and most seniors started training on Jan 6 th. Others only turned up early prior to Christmas break as voluntary.
But not many have realised and allowed for the different times this year and last fir season ending later and later start for all ages o  the lists.  But don't let these facts  get in the way of the Injury story as the Club looks worse if you don't!!

Alan Richardson said he had been training extremely well.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
