Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So people are upset that Gawn said that he had expectations of success next year in a radio interview? It's like everyone is trying to demonstrate their 'demon cred' by trying to show how cynical they are. It's lame.

There are actually some interesting things that he says in there if you can get past the MFCSS.

Christ this club just can’t help itself. It loves to talk and that’s about it.

How about shutting up and just getting to work?

Do you expect the players to stay silent the entire pre-season? They need to drum up some press and positive attitude to pump up the clubs exposure.

Is it possible to get past MFCSS ?

Other  than that I agree AB.

Club needs to stop  these type of BS fluff!

Enough talk & let ur winning do the talking as been hearing how excited  they are for over a decade!

Yes, because as if another poor season wasn't enough, lets give up on taking ad revenue buy not posting content.

Bringing in less money doesn't solve any problems mate.

Why do you say?

Because your insulted at the fact Melbourne players have media obligations, the very obligations and turn a profit for the club via ad revenue. Of course we're going to hear positive messaging. What do you expect, him to get in front of the camera and self-flagellate?

What about the next generation of Melbourne supporters? Reckon we'll get more kids' on board to ensure our future growth by telling everyone how bad we are every pre-season?

Not everything the club does from a media perspective is catered to the hardened MFCSS sufferer, nor should it be.

We need the players on the energy bus and looking forward, not wallowing in the disappointment of years gone by.

It's simple business. It's not a ploy to offend or insult members.

It would have been best if you read my post in full and not strip out one comment and then interpret it out of context.

I know he has media obligations.

I know it’s a fluff piece

Who said he needed to self-flagellate?

The messaging could be different and still cater to the whole fanbase.

Hearing the same thing each pre season without follow through makes the words had to swallow. That was my point which you’ve conveniently decided to by-pass.

I thought there was one relatively insightful take away (well, insightful because it came internally not from us) when Gawn said something about "the midfield has another level to go, the defence is holding up to a high standard but we felt we lacked an A grader up forward, and now we've got one".

Max is being quite honest.  I doubt many would disagree with this comment:  “When we do flash back to 2018 and see a Prelim Final, but nothing else either before it or after it, you almost see that little dynasty as a fail".

He is virtually saying 2018 was an aberration.  Following on from his comment a month or two ago that 2019 was 'a fail', I'm not sure it is fair to describe his comments as 'fluff pieces'.

Ah yes, another opportunity for the usual suspects to do the whole "actions speak louder than words" thing.

There aren't any actions we can implement right now that aren't susceptible to criticism. Even with many of our players doing early pre-season fitness work, I'm sure plenty will argue that training means nothing until game day.

What's funny about this article is that amongst the obvious fluff is an acceptance from Gawn that we look back on 2018 and consider that a fail. So for those who think the players think it's all going to happen because 2018 happened, this article actually helps you see that's not really what the players think.

Yes, the rest is guff, and yes, we all want to see us perform in 2021. But given that's not currently an option, just let the articles roll around and accept them for what they are.

A week ago we acquired one of the premier key forwards of the last 5 years in exchange for Brayden Preuss. Now people are upset that during the offseason break Max Gawn is mentioning that we hope to be better next year when doing a radio spot, because he didn't do anything.

Effectively offseason media is a Rorschach test for supporters. We just have a lot of supporters who think every ink blot is a mushroom cloud.

What should he have said? Please provide an example that would be satisfactory, from your point of view.

Something along the lines we’ll let our footy do the talking when we take the field. Actions not words.

I get he has to front the media and I get why some supporters don’t pay too much attention to these articles. Fair enough.

For me I’ve heard it all before and it irritates me.  Sorry, that just the way I feel about it.

But then that's the only thing that he'd say. His interview would last 5 seconds. And it would still be an empty cliche.

He probably even said that we'll be judged on our actions, or let footy do the talking, or something equally meaningless at some point during his radio slot because it is also cliched nothing-speak. Even talking about 'actions not words' are just empty words.

Gawn is actually one of the better footballers to listen to when interviewed because he's pretty straightforward with his answers. That's why there are a few snippets of interesting information that can be gleaned if you look past the standard offseason talk.

Im happy with this tweet and I think it shows Max has identified what value he can bring with his leadership style.

Yes, its easy in hindsight to pick on max if we dont perform and its not nice having people pick on us for beating our chest.

Think about it from a player point of view. Your captain has instilled expectations and belief, willing to put it out on media to reinforce it and cop any heat. It may seem small to some but I appreciate Max's efforts here.

Fair enough Axis. Good points well made.

Still reckon less talk and more action is the way to go though.

I believe we have a list that should make 7-8 th in 2021. Time will tell if it is better than that. Ok for Max who is the captain push the issue. As captain if you cannot be positive for 2021 now when can you?

Feel a little for Gawn. Has a 20-minute radio interview (mainly on bike riding) and answers one question on Melb's prospects. Answers in a positive way and gets labelled a Tommy Talk It Up. If he plays it down he would have also been criticised for not being ambitious enough.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
