The area that it leaves us vulnerable in is ground ball rebounds, so we really need to compliment Brown's signature by bringing in a competent small forward to partner with Kozzie.

Good point here.  I think this will actually be a really important part of the puzzle for us.  Kozzie has a big future but he needs help going forward.  Do they see Spargo as the bloke to stand up in this regard?  Perhaps a two year deal is their way of backing in Hunt to do it?  Or perhaps we go to the draft or look to trade someone in?

But that support at ground level is going to be key going forward.

Strange thread to have in the trade and draft section

I've always thought the best pressure a forward could apply is to kick goals.

Geelong locked the ball in their forward half in the 2nd Q of the GF but didn't exert enough scoreboard pressure.

At the end of the day the team that kicks the bigger score wins the game.

Sometimes too much emphasis is placed on the minutiae...

If you set your deep forward line up with Brown, Petracca and Kozzie. That's dangerous. That's really dangerous.

Weideman out at CHF and roaming higher and dropping deeper where necessary, then the rest of the forwardline should be made up of Viney, Harmes, Fritsch, Jackson and another small. Maybe Spargo, but I think we need a bit more leg speed in there. Fritsch probably needs to play up the ground a bit, as does Jackson.

We'll be well placed if Spargo and Hunt are both depth and are being held out of the side by a legitimate small pressure forward who kicks his goals every week.

We need a winger or two and two more small forwards. When are they announcing list sizes?

Do we trade him now, potentially for a 2nd round pick or do we let him battle away at the Casey Wind Tunnel for a year, by the end of which he'll be out of contract and off to a new home?

If we're bringing in BBB we may as well trade Weid now whilst he has some currency.

DeeSpencer I will give you a little support on this. While I wouldn’t be trading Weiderman out for a second round pick I would certainly be open to put him in a package to get another top line on baller. I mentioned it in the Zac Merrett thread that I would look at Weiderman and a pick to get him with Brown coming to the Dees and I would still do that.

I am really scared with our coach and a forward line consisting of Brown, Weiderman, Melksham and Fritsch how quickly we’ll organised clubs will have the ball rebounding out of our forward line.

I don't mind the idea of Brown but I do worry about our ability on the ground. We need pressure and that's all there is to it.

Weideman is going to be dynamite with Brown and Fritsch. We cannot trade him, he will be a great big game performer in years to come.

I think we should trade Deespencer for rubbish like that.

Weideman is one of the softest players in the team. But never the less id rather keep

I agree with Deespencer.  Having your two key forwards as pressure merchants is significant.

In fact, it ranks 179 out of 180 on my list of crucial game day acts.

Will he though? With Brown coming to relieve some pressure, this is what he has to show.

Yeah, we need forwards who will apply defensive pressure... or they just mark the ball and kick it between the big sticks and at 60% efficiency Ben Brown is rather good at that.

Granted, delivery to the forward line has been ordinary, but he is never near where it is.

A flower has more presence. I’ve noticed Pickett, Spargo and LJ, but not even sure if Weid is on the ground. At least BB knows where to lead.

Weid. 7 possessions. 3 kicks. 4 handballs. 3 marks. 2 tackles. 6 fumbles. 4 dropped marks. 5 high-fives. 4 hugs. 1 behind. 1 out of bounds.

on the edge of a good game.

but it’s time for Brown in. Weid out.

Bottom line, he doesn't get it enough to miss easy shots. He's there to kick goals.

Yes … but we do know he is a far better kick than he showed tonight.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
